What is the name of this firebox and where can one aquire them?
Can you use them just about anywhere? I think I need one for remote places.
It's called a Pit-2-Go. It also functions nicely as a charcoal grill. Google them, they have an
on-line store.
We've had ours for about 10 years, and it's holding up well.
You can use the Pit-2-Go anyplace where you would normally be allowed to have a wood or charcoal fire. Unfortunately, if you're camping somewhere that has restrictions on wood and/or charcoal fires, the Pit-2-Go doesn't gain you an exception to those regulations.
For instance, now that we have the normal summertime campfire restrictions in place in the local mountains here in SoCal, you would not be able to have a wood fire in the Pit-2-Go if you were remote camping. Technically, even if you were camped in an established campground, you couldn't use this for a wood fire as I believe the regulations are that you must use the fire rings in an established campground.
Nevertheless, we find it to be convenient since it can also be used for charcoal grilling, and if you're are camped somewhere that wood fires are allowed but there are no fire rings, it both saves you the trouble of building a ring, and avoids leaving a ring where there might not have been one before.
