Eric, I really like this shot, it just speaks to me of adventure and mountainous solitude and peace

What is the name of this firebox and where can one aquire them?
Can you use them just about anywhere? I think I need one for remote places.

It's called a Pit-2-Go. It also functions nicely as a charcoal grill. Google them, they have an on-line store.

We've had ours for about 10 years, and it's holding up well.

You can use the Pit-2-Go anyplace where you would normally be allowed to have a wood or charcoal fire. Unfortunately, if you're camping somewhere that has restrictions on wood and/or charcoal fires, the Pit-2-Go doesn't gain you an exception to those regulations.

For instance, now that we have the normal summertime campfire restrictions in place in the local mountains here in SoCal, you would not be able to have a wood fire in the Pit-2-Go if you were remote camping. Technically, even if you were camped in an established campground, you couldn't use this for a wood fire as I believe the regulations are that you must use the fire rings in an established campground.

Nevertheless, we find it to be convenient since it can also be used for charcoal grilling, and if you're are camped somewhere that wood fires are allowed but there are no fire rings, it both saves you the trouble of building a ring, and avoids leaving a ring where there might not have been one before.

Thanks guys! It was a perfect spot aside from the mosquito's. It was definitely their source, but perhaps if you could time it to camp their before they hatched.

There were also some nasty flies that gave me quite a few good sized welts which oozed for a couple weeks after the trip.

In case anyone is interested, one if my images from this trip was used in "21 Jump Street" by Sony Pictures which came out a few months ago, and just released on DVD/Blu Ray. It's only in the movie for 4-5 seconds but still pretty cool considering it's a fairly large scale movie with Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and Johnny Depp. This is just a rough edit Sony Pictures and I went over a few months before it hit theaters, but it gives you an idea of how they used it. (It appears at 1:01:00).
