30 days on the trail - Guess where we went

With the year coming to an end, I've yet to truly organize my photos from a month long trip this past summer. So, I thought it might be fun to post an image or two from each day of the adventure. The catch, you have to guess the place in the image or answer a trivia question about them before I post the next day. Once all the photos are properly identified, I'll post the trip report...

Day One, somewhere in Arizona

Yes, Navajo NM is correct. I hope to get back up there and do the long hike out to the Keet Seel ruin.
Here are the next two days...

Picture one is in the Navajo Monument Valley Tribal Park and pictures two and three in Valley of the Gods I believe.

It is named Valley of the Gods, because the Navajos believe that Christ visited them after here after he ascended into heaven. John 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.) It is believed that he visited others as well.

Too much information. Way way way too much "cosmic" information. I only know it as a place of great beauty and splendor which I have visited and camped out in a number of times over the years. One spring we had our tent and campsite obliturated by 70 mph red winds that Utah is famous for. Don't know how my young kids weren't blown away that day.

?? Why is that too much info? I thought it was helpful to know why it was named as such.

Is that really what the Navajos named it or called it by 200 years ago or is that what arriving Mormon settlers "convinced" their native American neighbors to rename the place as according to Mormon beliefs?

Are you asking if white people ever lied to the native americans?

Anywho, here is what BLM says:
"Navajo interpretation of Valley of the Gods
rock formations: “Rock formations are places
of power in which spirits reside, and the formations
in Valley of the Gods are some of the most
distinctive. These imposing monoliths are Navajo
warriors frozen in stone, who can be appealed
to for protection. They are guardians
whose power and strength aid young servicemen
going to war.” (From Sacred Land Sacred View
by Dr. Robert S. McPherson, Brigham Young
University.)"
