New in 1970 my blue burb cost $3441, had a curb wgt of 4113lbs
Loaded for a trip is it 6675lbs with a 7500 GVW without any suspension or tire upgrades.....I'm happy with that :)

Oh and Nick (Nobin here on Expo and elsewhere) has the orange burb & hits the scales at 7800+lbs but we won't pick on him :)

Wow, wasn't expecting that. I'm assuming its due to the suspension?

Yup. The Raptor has very soft suspension for dirt road driving. I can respect that. Ultralight camping, even "ultralight car camping" blows away heavy RV camping. But I need to haul bikes. I gave up my large camper or Rv dreams years ago when I found out that the best places to camp require 4x4, ATV's, or boots. In my neck of the woods, many campgrounds are now just parking lots for trailers/RV's. Shoot when I travel, all I need is a place to sleep (Henry Shires Tarptent), shower (shower tent), and eat (tailgate LOL). I'm done with big campers, I don't hang out at camp, I sitesee or am busy with hobby events. I think you can still rig a set of airbags to the rear of a Raptor for camping trips where you want to haul bikes or more gear.

Ford should offer a Raptor Tire and body only package for the F150. that way you have the Raptors good looks and the F150's utility without all the desert offroad suspension stuff.

Ford also adjusts it's cargo ratings to reflect how level the truck is with load. Not sure how much Dodge and GM look at that. For example my F250 2900, while the F350 is 4000+. Both have identical springs. But the F350's 2" taller block and rake allow it to squat more before the front is unsafely high and the rear sagging.

The recommended cargo weight for my Defender was somewhere around 2000 pounds stock.

It now has heavier springs, E-rated tires, etc so I'm not sure what the uprated weight rating would be. I'm guessing around 3000.

I've carried about 5000 pounds in it in a pinch, it only sank about an inch or so, but I was careful to stick to B roads and go very slow, as even though my truck has the optional factory upgrade of disks all the way around, the brakes are not really designed for that kind of load.

How is it possible that a same year F250 has a higher GVW than a F350? My '97 F350 PSD had a 9200 lb max GVW! What trans and gear ratio do you have? I guess ZF5 and 4.10s would boost the gvw, but man, that's goofy having a 3/4 ton with higher capacity than a 1 ton in the same make/year combo!

This F250 came off the assembly line with an auto trans (E40D) and 4:10s

How was your F350 spec'd out?

E4OD and 3.55s. That's likely the difference. I had a 460 powered E4OD truck the same as my '97, and I think it was close to 10,000. I chalked the difference up to engine weight. A neighbor has a '97 F250 with auto and PSD. I'll see what his combo is rated for when I get a chance.

Legit! Are those bead lock wheels too? Stock?

When you get to AZ, time to install the gun rack ;)

Yes those are dual bead lock wheels. They are HMMWV (H1) 12 bolt bead locks. They are fitted with 37x12.50x16.5 BFGoodrich Baja MTs. These were not stock. Stock was 235/85R16 The Rig comes with two gun racks built in from the factory. I moved to Dewey AZ a little over a year ago.
