Wiring is very simple indeed
1 wire to fuel shut-off valve
1 wire to the alternator
1 wire to the starter
1 wire to the glowplugs
this is all you need to make the engine run.
then you can wire the oil temp sensor
the tach sensor
coolant temp sensor
oil pressure sensor

Thanks, this is why I want to do the conversion

Classic is back on the road running perfect . I finally became free from my very busy work and fixed the problem related to upper main gear and spline of the t case its wasn't the t case just the upper gear. I have the pictures of the problem, problem was because of the unprofessional job done by the machine shop. Lt 230 is very robust t case I was surprised when truck went to neutral mode and wouldn't move .

89 Rover Classic Short Wheel Base

I've become absolutely obsessed with the idea of a diesel powered Rover since reading this thread (and others). I've vowed to never own another gasoline burner car.

I'm currently looking at a really nice 89 Rover Classic with a short wheelbase to do a diesel swap.

Is there any difference doing this swap with the 6.2 into a short wheelbase vs a long wheel base?

It totally depends on your budget.56
A zf24 can be used with a standalone computer.
a NV4500 manual can be used
a T56 could be used (depending on space)
a turbo 400 could be used

New to me 89 Classic Range Rover SWB

I've just become a proud owner of this beautiful '89 Range Rover Classic short wheel base model. I'm going to drop a diesel in her as soon as I can get all my ducks in a row. I'm weighing all my options as far as Engine/Tranny. When all is said and done I'd like to have her become a reliable daily driver that can cruise comfortably at CA freeway speeds, but also perform offroad, I'll take her down the Baja Peninsula, local deserts, and mountains. Given all the info from this thread and others, what would you build? What is your dream rig? Redrover is there anything you would do differently now that you've completed your build project? Paradigm anything you'd do differently?

In my case, everything I did worked out just the way I intended. The Automatic Transmission ZF24 worked great with the stand alone transmission computer.
The 5 speed works great, too. Two totally Different animals. I want to get a more powerful Diesel next, so the manual Transmission is the better option there.
I'll get some Ashcroft lockers next and some beefy driveshafts

RRC/D1s use mechanical trannies. setup a kickdown cable and you're done.

No EGR and iirc more fuel on the J motors.

I am proooobably gonna go 6.5 or Dmax if I can get my 4.6 gone.

Some people whine about the heavy engine. OK, so adding a winch bumper, and recovery gear is any better? haha. DO IT. The axles and chassis will handle it.

Edit: The D24t should bolt to the trans with out an adapter as its a volvo mill, just be ready to really really crank the boost and fueling up to push the pig.
