My '13 Geco JKU Thread

SO, It's been a little over 2 years since I brought the Gecko home:


A few weeks later I found a deal on a bumper via Craigslist. I felt it needed a little "customization"


Custimized to this:


Shortly after that I tossed some Hellas and a Badlands 12K winch on; it was time to take it out and have fun:
(camping trip to Dictum Ridge GWNF)




Next, got some Rubi take offs and loved the look:



Earning it's keep:


About a year after getting the JKU i stumbled upon the gem of an expedition camping pop up camper. It was sitting in NC waiting to be used and loved. It was originally from CO. A small company that was only around for a short time made these "Rough Out Products" trailers. Made a deal and drove down to get the trailer:

First and second trip out with the JKU and Camper:



Lift Time and tire time!
Went with a Teraflex 2.5 coil lift and new 15" MB TKO wheels wrapped in 35" Falken Rocky Mnts.

update 2

Last week i finally got time to toss the AEV rear bumper, AEV tire carrier,, Gobi AEV adapters, and Gobi rack mounts; Also tossed the Gobi windshield bracket and some Offroad Elements Gobi Rack Limb Riser Kit:



The donor for the Gobi rack:



I grabbed a new bumper ( no picture yet) It's a RR XDH with stinger.. not sure i want to keep the stinger or switch to a loop.

Good lord. I will say however, I think the Rubi's rims look so much better. Not much out there that looks better than a OEM jeep rim.. except maybe the AEV Sav's....

Completely agree... I just wish 35"s for a 17" rim didn't cost 3 times the amount as for a 15" rim... I'd love some AEV Savegres but for the price of those and tires i can add lockers and diff covers to the front and rear lol... However, these wheels/tires are just Temp ... I'll sell and upgrade just like i did the winch.. its just a stop gap :smiley_drive:

My personal thought on a stinger is, it is the most beautiful thing in the world, when the Jeep is resting on it. Otherwise, I'm with you on the looks.
Really like the bumper. Even your first bumper with the mods looked excellent.
Man this stuff is all so much personal taste.
In any case, I hope you never "need" that stinger! :beer:

Totally agree on the Stinger.. I have gotten more use to it.. I just like the idea of a full width bumper .. the 10a and the AEV are what i really want but they just have such a high price tag.

Winch line prepared for install... To protect from UV deterioration and damage from rubbing I covered the first 15 ft with lime greenish webbing(almost a Gecko green match) .. 38 cents a foot from REI.

Very Nice. I love the look. When I bought my Jeep back in 2012 the 13's were out. I got a left over 12 for a great price however they had this god awful unbelievable gawdy disgusting 2013 4 door on the showroom floor at the time. I was like ****** who in the hell would buy this damn thing. It was a gecko green jeep lol. Well let me just say within a year I loved seeing these on the road. My first impression was way off!!! Yours looks great. I always have this little bit of wishing I owned one now. Actually I would not mind owning just about any color now. Could I get a 30 car garage with every color in there. Maybe drive a different one each day of the month. lol.

I also have 15's for the exact same reason. The cost of new tire/rim combo for 17s is ridiculous. I wish they would come down in pricing I would love to go back to some 17s but until they do or until I find a reason not to own my 15 inch wheels anymore I will just stay with them. I have had them now 10 months and love it.

It's is hilarious you say that.. I actuality went up to a dealer 45min away to pick up a crush orange Jku and when I got there another salesmen had sold it. They tried to talk me into a stripped down black one, but I was so irritated I just left. On my way home I stopped at another dealer and they had a crush rubicon all AEV'ed out... Way over what I wanted to finance over 4 years lol. Then I saw the gecko in person and said screw it... Maybe it'll grow on me and I'm tired of shopping lol... Glad I did; after I broke up the green here and there with black accents I loved it... And the fact there is only a hand full in my area is kinda cool too.

Yeah the one down fall thus far is finding and adjustable track bar that fits... Most have big'ol ball joints.. But 17" AEVs will be in the future... Just gonna wear these out a bit more first
