Haven, I am sorry that your own problems with Erwin Z has prompted you to close the thread I started last Summer, " U500 crash, two firefighters killed". This is probable one of the most important threads on the Portal. The info gleamed from this thread could save lives. ErwinZ has been instrumental in getting good solid info on the accident and has been able to get the BLM accident reports. Please remember; two men died. Verkstad's comments were way more offensive than any thing that Erwin Z posted on this thread. Please let the info flow. The BLM is scrambling to cover their asses and trying to relieve themselves of liability. Read the whole thread from start to fiinish and I think you will understand where I am coming from. Thank you. Please remember; two young men died doing their job, fighting wildland fire and driving a U500 Unimog.

I concur. Whatever problems Erwin Z has, they are independent of the topic of that thread.

I thought it was an interesting thread and did not find any opinions posted by Erwin Z to be particularly distracting or offensive and thought that the information he was posting was relevant and interesting. I was surprised when the thread was locked, it seemed like everyone just started criticizing Erwin Z because of something he did in the past on another forum, those comments were the only ones off-topic.

It seemed like it was a good topic to bring attention to a potential serious seat belt issue and tire information

I was very interested in reading about the accident since I own a expedition unimog too. I can't understand at all why Erwin Z got locked out and his subject deleted, since all he wants to do is inform people about how to avoid getting killed in a accident driving a Unimog.
I demand that him and the subject become unblocked. Thanks for your comprehension.

No mention of the re-located seat belt anchors nor the European roll cage used on that model.

I quickly read the UN ece 29 regulation to which the Unimog was alleged to conform. I couldn't see anything about seat belts in there. Perhaps I missed it by reading quickly. It did say the cab roof has to be capable of carrying the a load equivalent to the front axle load on the truck. I'm surprised a plastic cab is capable of that.

It was an interesting thread until somebody trolled it away from technical reasons of a crash to become a series of bizar innuendo of conspiracy/coverup about the evil folks at BLM, M-B, Freightliner, Michelin, et.al...

Agreed. The subject it worthy of discussion, yes. All of you are capable of researching it yourselves. He is not in possession of any special material, he is not on the inside, folks. The bizarre behavior displayed here and other forums by our friend is not to be ignored, especially by those of you who are not familiar. It becomes very tiresome to read.

Why not just start a new thread, and include a link to the old one. It's still visible, you just can't make new posts there.

That's easy. Even easier for you to just unlock it. :) And if Erwin's banned anyway, why not?
