For a pavement pounder that goes off the blacktop occasionally, moisture is the primary enemy.

When I went to have the alignment done, the shop told me I needed the passenger's outer tie rod end and a pitman arm replaced before they would align it. Being distrustful, I brought it home to check it out myself and/or get a second opinion. After lots of youtube and googling, this morning (in the rain) I put the front end up on jackstands and wiggled things around. Here's a clip of the passenger's outer tie rod:
Here's the driver's side - which seems to have a torn boot:

And here's the Pitman arm:

Things seem to be tight. Did I test them badly? Am I missing something they saw? Are they trying to get money out of me?

The one with a torn boot is easy. Replace the joint/end

The rest, ********** the assembly near the joint with a rubber mallet.

If you get any kind of metal on metal noise, the joint is likely toast.

IdaSHO, I think you have a thing for food - especially crispy bread!

I'll have to go give all those parts a beating.

Nothing new on the steering. Everything operates fine; it's just the TERRIBLE wear on driver's front tire that shows all is not well. Here's a few photos of what's been done from the past weeks. Finishing the sticker removal. The forceps were not as effective as fingernails, but I wanted to connect with the ambulance theme.P3230043.jpgP3230048.jpg

Haha, at least you've got helpers that can crawl into all those small spaces!

You can use a plastic window scraper with a fine edge and that job will go a lot faster. I used a Stanley Window Scraper like this:

Z421-100 Stanley Window Scrapers.jpg

http://www.amazon.com/STANLEY-28-590-SCRAPER-WINDOW-piece/dp/B0001IWDBK

It has a removable cap that covers the razor blade, but also doubles as a plastic scraper itself, which I used for the majority of the work. If you encounter a really difficult spot, you can very carefully use the razor scraper by keeping it flat against the surface and allowing the tail of the handle to slide along the surface also. This forms a 'tripod' contact arrangement, and prevents the corners of the blade from gouging the paint.

I've had mine for a long time and I believe I bought it from HD or Lowes one.

Update

So - It's been a while since I updated here - like a year. In that time, I installed an old bench seat I pulled from a mid 70's Plymouth voyager for the kiddos, used the biggest set of plexiglass cupboard doors to make a temporary window on the passenger's side, and we camped at Assateague State Park - including a Wal-Mart overnighter.

And we went through our first oil change last fall. And then, this spring I bought two real windows on ebay and installed them during the blizzard here in PA. My boss gave me the afternoon off and let me bring the truck inside the warehouse. And I replaced the water pump which was leaking. And we passed our first inspection with a little TLC (fuel leak in the engine valley, manifold leak, alignment, with bonus removal of defunct rotary tire-chain mechanisms). By the way, I highly recommend this shop in central PA: http://www.powerstrokedieselmechanicpa.com/

Why are my photos upside down? How can I fix them?

Why are my photos upside down? How can I fix them?
Pics taken with a Tablet or phone, saves them however, you took them no matter which way the camera was; be it sideways, inverted or verted. BUTT... attached to the image is a seperate code that other phone or tablets and many PC's pic viewing programs can read. That code says which was is up. This is where it confuses people....... "pic show right side up ONLY cause viewer's software could read the code". Folk assume it is saved that way... but actually the code told the software to flip it before viewing.

....... Bulletin boards can not read that code... so however pic was saved... is what shows; be it sideways, upside down orr??

Soo... how to fix.... you have to download the pics from your phone/tablet to computer. Open it in pic software and RE-SAVE IT in the correct orientation... BUTTT... remember your viewer may have read the code and flipped it... so don't assume and do a regular save. You have to look for a special save feature (or open feature in some pic software) that will result in it in being saved with the correct side up permently. This also removes the code cause it is no longer needed. That being said there are some online sites where you can essentially do the same thing by loading and saving your pic to your PC thru their website.

Either way you get it done...... THEN you can post it and it will be shown up correctly.

PS----- this is a laymen's explanation and not EXACT but gets the concept across.

Are you using an iPhone? Common problem... When you take pictures, make sure the volume buttons are facing down....

For the ones you've already taken you'll need to edit them to flip them, how you do that depends on what software you use to edit photos....
