Limb risers without tabs or a rack?

I have been trying to find these for a while now, but didn't know what they were called or where I could get them. Thanks Terri and Honu!

If you are going to a West Marine store, I found my drawbar springs in the trailer supplies isle. Not all stores carry them, but they should be in the catalogue and orderable.

Had to revive this thread since I am making my set of limb risers. I am wondering where any of you found coated uv stable cable. I couldn't find it at West Marine.
I have heard of cable turning yellow after one year in the sun. Any ideas would be great.

I've heard of people using the clear coated cable you can get at Home Depot or Lowes. It's called "dog retention wire" or something of the like. I haven't heard anything about the line changing color though.

Only put them on when you need them. Don't run around town with them on. Similar to a Hi-Lift, shovel, axe or other externally carried gear, don't carry it unless might need it. If it is just sitting parked in the sun it is going to be exposed to the elements. Take them off when not in use or protect them from the elements, garage or cover it, and they will have a longer life. Make them so you can readily mount and unmount them.

Apologies for the intrusion from a Jeep driver but...

Has anybody seen the front end of the cable attached to anything other than part of the bumper? Maybe behind light fittings? My Wrangler has stock bumpers and nothing immediately obvious to attach things to.

There's a beefy body-mounted roof rack for the other end.

And for the record, this is nothing about safari bling or mutilating gesticulating cyclists. I'm not even going to revive the centuries-old method of ship-to-ship communications by flags. (Although that would be fun and Lord Admiral Nelson would be proud.) Nope. This is strictly for slamming branches directly into whatever is on the roof rack rather than having them scratch my oh so pretty Jeep!

Cheers,
Graham

The covered marine cable that I've seen used on boats has a white polymer (of some sort) cover on it. Typically it is used for life-lines around the perimeter of the deck.

Clear is rarely ever the best choice in any polymer, so it's not too much of a surprise that the clear covered stuff only lasts a year.

Graham,
I'd be wary of a body mount for the lower end of the cable. Can likely be done, but I'd advise thinking about where the loads will go and what they might do to the sheet metal. Are risers ala TeriAnn's example not feasible?

Acrylic and Polycarbonate do quite well in clear applications. Think of headlights and tail lights.

I think this is what you are looking for.

Jeep limb risers (aka bush cables)

Do those marine life lines come in any other color? Clear or even black would look ok, not to sure about white.

Good point about not keeping them on the truck all the time. That might make dog line more feasible with less chance for uv damage.

These can be used on the ARB bar to attache the wire to.

They are ARB antenna mounts
