yup, you are the man,,,, among a number of us men who have been doing it for years,,, its pretty cool to know you can do it huh? if you want to join an even more elite club leave the rim for your spare at home and just carry the tire like i do when i want more than one spare.

just carry the tire:sombrero:
I can't see not bringing a full spare but I can see throwing an extra tire on the roof as well for certain trips. How would you keep it clean though? Dirt inside would not be helpful.

Good deal. I did that on my current set of tires and its nice to not have to rely on the tire shop.

I was surprised how little drama it was to get the beads set. My dinky little compressor had no problem at all because no air came out. I just used the bucket method to push the tire well onto the first bead area and then held the tire so the other one was touching as I turned on the air. 15 or 20 seconds of air and the bead was set. Soap water helped I'm sure but I have heard so many stores of having to use crazy methods like explosive vapor and whatnot.

keep the tire clean? i dont understand those words.

i dunno, i never saw it as a problem, a quick wipe with a rag is easy enough,,, a full size spare mounted on a rim is a relatively new thing for me, i only made a swing out carrier when someone gave me a rim for my spare tire, i also used to carry a tube and kept it partially inflated in the tire.

Why the tire pliers? I have one of those hi lift jack deals.

I have no doubt that it can be done a myriad of other ways. I've never tried the hi lift method though I am aware of it. I would imagine it would be somewhat more laborious, cumbersome and perilous to the tire sidewall if simply because of the heft of the thing. Further, I have a personal affinity for the ideal tool for a given job when possible. While I just ordered them, and had no previous experience with them, I can now report that they do work just as advertised and make what, I’m sure we can all agree, can be a real chore into a predictably pleasant procedure.

while the hi lift jack deal works and is cheaper, i break beads just fine w/o the deal on my hi lift, so if i was going to spend money on a bead breaker it would be tire plyers, they are infinitely easier to use than a hi lift.

but i havent had the need to buy either as i can break beads just by staring them down. ok so i use a length of 2x i keep on the rig and jump a couple times.:sombrero:

i wouldn't call that elite; more like stupid. if you're already bringing the tire, why wouldn't you bring the wheel?

a lot of good just a tire would do you here:

so you are bringing more than one spare, right? right.

and for the second spare, you're saying you leave the rim at home, right? right.

why the hell would you NOT bring the rim if you're already bringing the tire?! are you trying to save 25lbs?

just to reiterate the first part of that sentEnce:

leave the rim for your spare at home

let me know if you need me to break it down from a 3rd-grade level to a kindergarten level.

more than one spare sometimes, right

i dont actually leave the rim at home, i only have 5 rims. that kinda went with the sombrero smiley you left out of the quote.

i dont bring it cause i just dont need it, when i bring the extra rubber i am loaded down and not travelling at speeds that a bent rim is a high risk. my main spare is a mounted tire on a rim, just like most folks. i also carry the tools to mount a tire on a rim, and sometimes carry a tube, is that stupid?

so, how many mounted spares do you carry? i sure hope its more than one if your gonna call someone stupid who also carries one mounted spare, let alone the extra stuff i carry.
