spray Pam on tires before hitting the mud?

For a little while, then it wears off.

We used to do it for motorcross racing. wd-40, pam, etc etc.

It works (kinda) in the chutes of snowblowers too!

Supposedly works on mower decks also, but I didn't have much luck.:snorkel:

also suppose to work on the wheel wells and the engine if your going in the mud...allegedly simplifies clean up.

Is it a waste of time and money?

Yes - I'd much rather pull out my pressure washer and some correct cleaning agents than spraying Pam, WD-40, tire shine or (fill in the blank). I can give my FJ Cruiser a very good cleaning in about 10 minutes with the proper cleaning agents.

We used to use wd40 on the sprint cars running at Manzy in Phoenix and it lasted pretty much the whole race. Kept that clay from sticking to the chassis wheels and body when we sprayed it on.

I've heard of guys spraying the whole underside of their trucks with a mix of diesel and motor oil before mudding. I guess it works, I prefer to spend $25 at the quarter wash to get my truck clean. :victory:

I have gallons of wd40 and a couple of hand spray bottles in the shop. Use them for tube bending, drill lube, etc.

When I know I'm going to be in the mud, I have been known to spray a thin coat on the bottom half of the body, and undercarriage. Mud simple slides off. What little sticks, just comes off with a low pressure garden hose.

Mud has always been love/hate for me. Flinging mud responsibly (from a tread lightly perspective) is hard to beat for mindless fun in a wheeler. Cleaning it up sucks any fun out of it. Kind of like a hangover kills a fun night barhopping. A little "cleanup lube" makes it enjoyable, even the morning after!

Wd40 works very well.

Veggie oil/olive oil may be more environmentaly responsible.

I think the purpose of spraying the tires with PAM has been a little misconceived here. You spray them so the mud will clean off the tire easier for better traction, not so YOU can clean your truck easier!

Well, in that case, no.

Would work for the first few minutes, and then wear off.

I'll try it next time I go out, be a fun experiment.

NASCAR uses it on their wheels preventing rubber build-up on the lug nuts making it easier to change the tire.
