  • Yes, I'm actually a bit east of Pgh in the Irwin area. Most of the places I'm aware of are for mud-bogging for big lifted machines unfortunately. My wife and I spend our time trying to find good trails, but due to our 70 hour work weeks, are barely able to get out once a month. Most of our travels take us east in to the Laurel Highlands (straight out Rte 30) and we attempt to get lost from there. We did find a fantastic bit of trails south of the city, we spent hours driving back and exploring...but I'd have to find it again. When I can dig up where that was I'll let you know, it was an odd dirt road that started at the end of a residential street and ran along a small river. I actually traded my seriously built off-road jeep to get more into overland-exploration style trips and am now building my jeep as such. Sounds like you and I are looking for the same type of trails and should keep in contact.
I saw a posting from last fall saying you are from the Pittsburgh area. I am also and have been looking for some other overlanders in the area who may know of places to do some backcountry adventure driving. I have been told about a few trails around here but they seem more like places where big trucks go to tear the woods up and that's not really my style. If you know any nice family-freindly trails where some nice scenery and possibly a camping area could be found I would love to chat. Thanks! Nick
