Cheap tricks and solutions - product modifications, DIY, or repurposed items- not on-sale items

Wanting to transport a NATO style gas can flat, and finding no good options, I just made my own inexpensive holder to go atop my roof rack. *Main body is made of wood, glued & screwed *Steel cable is used for the strap to hold the can in, with nylon webbing sewed around the cable to keep wear...

    Looking for a SWAG...

You mention the Kings swag. This is either the Kings Big Daddy rebranded, or an almost exact copy: https://www.amazon.com/SUNOOM-Fire-Retardant-Waterproof-Preservation-Material/dp/B071F6P8S5/

Tent to leave up all summer

baileyrorys, I am in Seattle as well. On Craigslist there is a guy in Olympia selling 11' x 11' Mobile Command post tents for $800, and a guy in Port Angeles selling larger ones. Just search on "military tent". What part of the state is your new property in?

    Kodiak Swag

Has anyone here tried the new Kodiak Swag yet? It looks like the same design as the Oztrail Mitchell King Swag, with two differences being a vinyl floor and a thicker (2") mattress. If anyone here has one, I would be interested in knowing what you think of quality of construction, and comfort...

If you have anything that needs fixing during Burning Man, trailer or otherwise, my camp is BRC Welding & Repair. We will be at 3:15 & B. I'll be on playa starting Fri, 8/28. Hell, if you don't have anything that needs fixing, still stop by for a drink. Ask for Frostbite.

    Where to stick a TM-V71A

Here is my Yaesu 8800 in an 80 series. Main body is in the left side of the driver's footwell. If you did the grey wire mod, the radio is right in front of that wire harness. Head is in front of the center console, with an external speaker behind the parking brake.

    Best tablets for navigation?

I just bought the same device for dedicated nav, but plan on using Gaia on it. The 8 inch screen seems to be the sweet spot in size for me. I chose the Galaxy Tab 3 8 inch for the size, ability to accept memory cards and the GPS, of course. I wasn't planning on getting it quite yet, but Woot...

    Craig's 1989 RRC

Do you ever keep your radio on 146.52? If you ever see a white LX450 with the license plate KY7S, that is me.

    Craig's 1989 RRC

Craig, I see your RRC around my neighborhood every so often. I am an avid Ham, so your license plate always grabs my attention. I live in Ballard.

    Northwest by Ex-MOD

Looks like a great trip, and I really like your report. I like the bridge over the swimming hole. It is an old Southern Pacific flat car with the trucks removed. The second to last photo is just two blocks from my house. :)

    Teotwaki's comms ramblings...

You are describing the popular "squid pole" antenna. I see most people using a 9 meter fishing pole, but you can also buy longer, if desired. http://www.perite.com/vk7jj/squidpoles.html http://vk5bbs.ampr.org/pages/techdata/squid.htm

    Teotwaki's comms ramblings...

I don't have one quite yet, but am planning on ordering one within the next two weeks. So, I have been looking at all the options for it from the various sources - Gems Poducts, Begali, etc. Having fun designing a little station. As for the KX3 Yahoo group, I am really surprised at the number...
