Get out of Town - New York City to Patagonia

Hi, we are Marek and Zuzka from Get out of Town. Although we are Czech, we have started our journey in September in New York City and we are headed to South America. We drive a white-blue van (Toyota Hiace). We have crossed the USA and are ready to jump to Mexico next week. If you'd like, follow...

Hindsight = 20/20...what did you wish you had left behind? What did you need?

It has definitely been done with slide-in campers. See https://www.facebook.com/SongOfTheRoad or https://www.facebook.com/PanAmNotes. I believe the reason why more people opt for a van or an SUV is simple - cost. Also one thing you need to watch is the weight of the camper INCLUDING all your...

Hindsight = 20/20...what did you wish you had left behind? What did you need?

Thanks, we will make sure to pack a simple can opener. Here are some tips on how to open a can: http://life.hackaday.com/three-ways-to-open-a-can-without-a-can-opener/ Personally I have used a screw driver and a hammer before :)

    Which cheap awning?

We are shipping our campervan to the USA in August and since we are using RoRo, I'd like to minimize the amount of stuff we leave in the car. We are considering getting an awning, in EU I could get a nice roof-rack mountable Gumtree awning for roughly 300 USD. Is there a similar product, that...

    Norwegian Toyota 4wd camping van

Nice one, that definitely sits higher. By the way - do you have any experience with aligning of the sliding doors? Seems like my both doors sagged a little bit in the front and are hitting the frame when I close them. I need to lift the front part of them by about 0.5 cm.

Too bad, BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO would be nice. They are 215/75R15/C, but the rating is 100. The size difference is 4.45 %. I might try them out, since I'll be driving out of the country anyways and I won't be fully loaded.

Rryd, what load index is required for the Hiace? I'll have a look.

    Norwegian Toyota 4wd camping van

Oh, my bad, I was convinced they were 16". Anyways, I bought a used 4x4 Hiace and looking for new tyres. My travels will take me to some dirt roads and occasionally sand. I would like to lift the vehicle a little bit using larger tyres giving it a little bit better ground clearance and retaining...

    Norwegian Toyota 4wd camping van

Sorry to revive an old thread, but aren't the stock rims 16"? So are the bigger tyres 225/70 R16? If so, how happy are you with them? Any problems? I'd like to fit BFGoodrich All-terrains in this size. Thanks.

Sprinter low roof - does it fit into a container?

Yup, saw those before. I'd rather not carry 4 of those across a half of the world, but it definitely is an option. Thanks. I've contacted the guys Riptide suggested, they probably had to use something like that also, since the 4x4 T1N Sprinter is at least 240 cm.
