Looking for recommendations on a family hauler/tow rig/occasional camp vehicle

Not necessarily in UT. The last one I ran into -- a couple of weeks back -- was in Wash and was an old Border Patrol van with OEM 4x4 system. re the pick-up, I can't decide if my next build will be a refuse Fuso ;), ambo, or pick-up. If I'm being practical and realistic about my skill, the...

Looking for recommendations on a family hauler/tow rig/occasional camp vehicle

About 20-30% of the Express van builds I have run across in the last 6 months were 4x4. I don't have one because I don't want/need one. But it doesn't seem as difficult as I thought. Most of the folks I've spoken with say even modding a 2wd van themselves was not horrible because a lot of the...

From memory, they will do some reinforcement but its just as easy to do it yourself and it allows you to not be subject to the placement if the reinforcements are molded into a place which might interfere with your build plans. Because my van is going to be very custom layout unlike anything...

Correct. And I'm having some extras installed...windows and MaxxAir. Although I have not done any research with Fiberine recently, I'd say the spend is comparable between the two companies. I am not doing the high gloss finish, which saves a little bit of money, because I'm going to paint the...

I'm planning to supplement with a some 1x1 Al attached with 3M auto tape. I don't anticipate the top carrying any load other than MaxxAir and perhaps, at some point, a custom solar panel install. The 1x1 ought to do a good job of helping it from getting floppy as it ages at the very least.

Price drop: 4wd camper van $12k

This sounds like an awesome project with lots of meat on the bone.

I put in a deposit with hightopvan.com folks today. I'll report back when I know more. The install will be pretty soon. For now, the major thing was that I liked the HTV slope front-to-back better than the Tufport and I sort of hit it off with the owner. Also, they did work for Slow Roamers @ YT...

Howdy, folks. I'm probably going to have a high top installed on my Express this years. I'm aware of FIberene and Wasatch Overland. Anybody worked with hightopvan.com in WA state?

Can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not. In my experience 4WD Express vans are pretty rare. Seemingly getting more rare as fewer folks are doing 4WD conversions on the old style vans.

Can we see the under side? Curious about the suspension and 4wd and also rust situation.

I mean...I don't want to get pegged as an Express van shill but the 3500 extended has the 6.0L w/ no AFM and a 13k tow capacity and 6spd. Remove 2 rows of seats out of the passenger and you can reconfigure the rear however you like. The GM open diff sucks hugely but some of them can take a LSD...

Is a van + towing a small trailer for the kids a reasonable idea?

I think some of the glass Bigfoot TTs have slide-outs. If I could go back and do all of that again I would probably go Bigfoot if I'm right about that.

Is a van + towing a small trailer for the kids a reasonable idea?

I did something similar full-time for about 3 years: - 23ft fiberglass 3.5 season travel trailer. - Express 3500 extended 6L gasser, 6spd, w/ limited-slip It was me, my < 10 yro daughter, and mountain bikes + dirt/trials bikes, tools etc packed into the back of the van by removing last 2...
