Converting a factory JK/JKU hardtop to modular

Jeff, I am looking to start this project and opened this back up. Is this the final list of items needed to do this?

If you were to sandwich the metal bracket between fiberglass fabric on the top, underneath and on top of, do you think you should have proper bonding?

Converting a factory JK/JKU hardtop to modular

Looking back on your instructions with the build of the bolt flanges lay in with fiberglass, as an alternative, do you think a piece of steel or aluminum 90 degree angle bracket could be scuffed then shaped to the "slight" lines of the top angles and fastened into place using some 3M 5200, 3M...

Converting a factory JK/JKU hardtop to modular

What I have done with other projects is once it is completely dry, get some satin marine grade polyurethane spray cans and stand back a bit then spray to let it adhere and provide the "less porous" finish. It works. What you don't want is overspray buildup sag...

Converting a factory JK/JKU hardtop to modular

Down here in the Dallas Fort Worth area hard tops are a rare find. The top I found yesterday is a white body color one for $250. Looking for the best satin black textured spray can paint to match the OEM black top color. Best choice I have found so far is Duplicolor bed liner.

Converting a factory JK/JKU hardtop to modular

It surely does, thanks. I was just looking at it and was thinking I needed a piece of flat bar bolted permanently to the tub horizontally and a separate one to each strut bracket and bolt together once the top is on. With your idea, I can drill a small access with a hole saw and be good to go...

Just purchased a Military trailer to build a family hauler

Thanks for the info. I'm on the fence to pull the axle and replace to a lighter one with matching bolt pattern. Long term I will probably do that. Yes it is an evolution to push it around the yard and my yard has an incline in and out of where I store it.

Mark, I tow mine with a 2009 Jeep Rubicon JKU and removed the surge brake and replaced with the same type setup you have with the welded channel onto the original bracket. I am looking to lose some more weight and wanted to ask approximately how much weight does removing the brake assemblies...
