Filling in some empty space... added a couple drawers. I left room for our camp chairs, honey bucket, and theres even a milk crate stuffed under there for whatever. I dropped my tools there, but not sure if thats where they will stay.
I also added a little fold down extension for the counter...
Looks like that ones a full westy, still got the fridge?
I went vanagon syncro - westie syncro - truck camper - smaller truck camper - Class A GMC - toyhauler - E350....
The walls are all above the original roofline. The sides fold inward and the ends accordian outward.
Lets see if I can post these from my phone, I'm in the middle of nowhere in interior Alaska right now....
Guess I can.
The blue and multicolor portions are the sides panels with 'curtians'...
Thanks!
Yes, 5" 'Baja Grocery getter' w/ new rear springs and the king shocks.
I only had the sulastic shackles on for a couple days. I'd like to say I noticed a difference but now I can't be sure.
There was a bigger difference with the progresive rear springs for sure.
The van interior is...
More or less finished, just need to do trim and pretty things up.
Didn't really take time to take any pictures the last couple weeks of work, I was to far behind.
We did 8000 miles in 45 days, van worked pretty well. I have a few bugs to work out before our trip to AK in April.
Lets see here.... what has been going on.
Figured out how to make cruise control work on a non-cruise equipped van, that was cool. Just installed the missing parts and it started working.
Built some drawers...
Got some lights...
Sparky bits
Built a outdoor shower panel
Grey...
So, I've been thinking. If I run my heater fan while the coolant heater is off and not circulating, it will very quickly cool the coolant in the heater core.
The heater can be configured to maintain a temp window, but if the coolant isn't moving it won't respond to the heater core getting cold...
Finally getting this all put together.
Still need to install the inlet and exhaust, but its all working.
Thats the hot water heater, cabin heater, and expansion reservoir.
I ditched the electronic valves as I just ran out of space. A couple ball valves that are accessible inside the van...
Took an impromptu camping trip and discovered the turbo vanes were intermittently sticking (classic 6.0 issue) and the alternator was barely keeping up (classic ford issue).
Turbo comes off...
Cleaned soot, cleaned corrosion, lubed and reassembled.
Since it was out I installed this Coolant...
A couple days after that last post I got a job in Alaska for the summer. Had to put the van on hold.
Got back in August and have been working on it... I'll try to copy my build thread from SMB over here....
Water tank mount and sound deadening
Firing out the walls...
Insulation...
Thanks, I had been reminded of that over on the SMB forums.
I have decided to go with the knockoff 5kw heater. The way my system is designed, the main vehicle engine will be my 'redundancy'. If it can't provide enough heat I will also have the 'double redundancy' of being able to drive...
Yeah, took me a bit to figure out the differences. The 3 wire version are the ones that don't draw power constantly and don't return home when power is removed. I was originally going to use irrigation valves for sprinklers, but most say not to use with heated water.
I may still use a sprinkler...
