I say no unless you really push it, and aren't scared to hit your frame or of body damage. I did Lockhart last year in a TJ unlimited on 35's with dual lockers, and although not super challenging there were parts that got my attention. I also have a Tacoma on 265's with dual ARB's and I don't...
Edit - just realized I strayed from the conversation on gear ratios - whoops. So I have to say something about ratios or I'm breaking the rules - ummm stock is good if you're stock, 4.56 for 32 inch tires, 4.88 for 33 inch tires - for AT tranny. Your results may vary.
Must say I'm enjoying this thread - usually just a reader and not a poster, but can't resist. I think we have to be clear on our intentions here... if you are an average overlander (based on what I see on the pages of this site) then it's true, you rarely are using the capability of a stock...
Best I can say is don't rely solely on the numbers you calculate, but from folks who run certain gear and tire combo's. Looking directly in the mirror on this one... I have a 2nd gen Taco with AT and run 265's. The "math" said 4.10's would be perfect, and after a couple of thousand bucks I...
All good inv3 - I appreciate your evaluation of the GoFast and would like to hear more as you spend more time in it. The panels must be pretty light in order to move them so easily. But a bit of age in me (not old, but moving in that general direction) means usually getting up at least once in...
Perhaps we can move away from deciding for each other what may be important and what may not be. I honestly believe that the developers of the GoFast would like commentary on what some consider important, with consideration towards expanding their product line and meeting multiple needs of...
I agree with this concept - having space to drop down into the truck bed while the forward bed matts are still in place would be highly preferable - even if it was only 20-30 inches of space at the back of the truck. This would allow room to stand in the back of the truck with the bed deployed...
There is a place in Victoria, B.C. that provides composite panels if you decide to build your own. Just read about them on here - no personal experience. http://totalcomposites.com/expedition-trucks-rvs/
Hello there, I usually just lurk and rarely post, but couldn't resist here. I suggest you don't follow my error with 4.10s (I'm assuming you have an auto or else you already have 4.10 if manual). I put in 4.10's when I put 265/75/r16 tires on (good fit with 2 inch lift) and truly wish I would...

Maybe not exactly what you're looking for, but perhaps helpful. Not my Jeep - I just recalled seeing it.
OP, I may have missed it but not sure on your experience. When I guide trips to Moab I often start off on Fins and Things to get people used to slickrock. But if you're alone and have never been to Moab and haven't wheeled much rock before, I recommend trying to get in on a group. I've been...
Wow, I'm almost sorry I started this with my initial post :-) - my apologies. Just to be clear I appreciate satire as well as the next person. What I was hoping for when I posted the first post was what I actually stated in the post "Moral is rather than criticizing let's educate - help folks...
Did anyone read the article on not understanding Jeeping that is on the main site? If you did, am I wrong in feeling this way? It's unfortunate - another case of "since I don't get it then it must be wrong" or is it a case of "since I don't understand then thousands of enthusiasts must be...
I just put 265/70/17's on my Tacoma, and after driving it I won't go any bigger without a regear (its a 4.0, but the idea is the same when jumping more than one tire size). Take another route, do the 32's and save some money for skid plates and rock sliders.
I agree with this... I did 3000 miles in 4 days in a 91 2.5 YJ and didn't find it a problem at all other than stiff posterier. Other than change oil and alignment, I'd add a full grease job - especially driveshafts, check ball joints, u-joints and driveline bearings - and give it a go. (on...
