Odyssey Battery - just purchased with old date code

Battery life should really be about charge cycles. Shelf life shouldnt, theoretically, be a factor.

    M100/M416 width opinions wanted

Yes, mine is a 2007 Chaser. I’m probably owner #4 or maybe 5? I took it completely off the frame and did some significant work, including a 3-position telescopic tongue with a fully rotating pintle ring. It deals with the length issues nicely, although it didnt tuen out quite as awesome with...

Aux fuel tank idea - Tell me why this won't work

I think at a minimum, you would need to tie the vents together. The aux tank would have to work with the vehicle vent system. However, caution, some jurisdictions have visual inspection requirements as part of emissions testing and modifications will be grounds for failure.

Aux fuel tank idea - Tell me why this won't work

😂 I’ve had similar experiences opening Jerry Cans at altitude, high temperature, after bouncing around on a trail. I learned a few things in my first 2 gas-vapor shower incidents: 1) don’t fill them so far 2) if youre truly out of gas just relax and watch the sunset and fill up later when it...

Best Primary Battery - Jeep JK

I do this. I added my winch to the top posts and made some copper bus bars for all of the jeep operation plus accessories. This is my 3rd iteration of bus bars, eventually I ended up pulling all of the original battery cables out of the harness because the factory clamps were no longer...

Tarp Under Tent - Common Practice?

Yes, seriously, very common. Manufacturers even sell their tents with custom cut and sized tarps. I think they call them “footprints”. With the cost of equipment, it seems crazy not to protect it, even if that means carrying a little more weight.

Best Primary Battery - Jeep JK

I run the cheapest lead-acid deep cycle I can find. Group 27 Marine Super-Start from O-Reilleys. They last about 3-4 years, continuous fridge and continuous solar. I spend about $120 and replace immediately at the first sign of trouble. Before that, i trashed about $800 of Odysseys figuring...

    JK Roof Racks

I never use the tilt / removable top feature, so that is wasted cost. There isn’t a really great way to route wiring, and I added lights all around, so mine has a full accompnyment of zip ties. I carry a lot of lumber and steel, so I added pipe insulation to the crossbars for a little more...

    JK Roof Racks

Gobi Stealth. There are aspects I love and aspects to be desired. I bought it 6 weeks after I bought my JK…. That was 10 years ago. I’ve learned a lot since then. What do you want your rack to do?

    RTT mattress replacement

Im completely happy with the thinner Exped replacing my foam. I think it is the 7.5 vs 10 CM? Ive never looked back.

RTT Rack for a Trailer. Question About Spacing.

I would throw side-to-side hoops across it at 16, 18, or 24” with the intent of running unistrut (or tent rails) across it lengthwise and a plan to space that to match whatever the tent needs. I did similar in my trailer. Looking back, I would have simplified a lot, but I got a tubing high and...

New truck build: RTT vs Wedge vs Pop-up camper?

Having 3 kids, all I can tell you is that things are going to change… fast! You may very well find that mommy doesn’t like many, or even all, of the things she did before. Her required comfort and risk profiles might change dramatically. The long drives and midnight camp arrivals might no...

New truck build: RTT vs Wedge vs Pop-up camper?

I might have missed it in my skim, but is a trailer with a tent not on the option list? I made that jump a while ago and it is a very happy life, especially as the kids have multiplied.

    M100/M416 width opinions wanted

I’m towing a 416 style trailer and find it to be a little too narrow. You really cant see it behind the JKU, not a problem for forward but a challenge and a half to back up. If you have access to both sides, wider would be no big deal. If you have a lid that hinges along one side (common)...

Campchef Everest stove knob fell off!

Realistically, once you drill that hole and put a pin through, you dont even need a knob. And the t-handle that is formed is easier to use with sticky, wet, or gloved hands. Your new concern will be breaking the valve stem at the point of drilling.
