Swing away tyre carrier . Hinge question.

That sounds quite a good plan :) Cheap too.

Swing away tyre carrier . Hinge question.

Simple is always better to me. Bearings seam a bit of a faff. Acetal is in my scrap bin so that seamed a good choice so I`ll maybe go steel bar with acetal washers and a grease nipple. Cheers for the advice :)

Swing away tyre carrier . Hinge question.

I will soon be starting a swing away tyre carrier for the back of my sprinter. Question is what would be best for the hinge bush . Bronze or machinable plastic (acetal etc). Any opinions appreciated :ylsmoke:

Cheers Yvan :) I tried to pick a colour that was fairly light so not to make it feel like a dark cave and give it a bit of a tool box look . Its some sort of grey / blue metallic. Hoping to have some more pics tomorrow of how things are going. Today my mini smoke alarm arrived (fireangel...

Its really starting to take shape now :) The way they have cut the cabinets has left quite a lot of aisle space so it feels very open for a small van.

    I blame you trailer build.

Its all your fault. And Ive told my wife you made me do it :) I never considered a trailer until I saw all the awesome home built things on here. But now I don`t think my life is complete until I get one :) Just won a 3.5 ton vauxhall movano axle on ebay (same as Dodge promaster). Its the only...

Things have still been going quite slowly but heres a few pics to add. Webasto diesel heater has been fitted but thats tucked away so no pics, solar panels fitted to the roof rack but I`m too short to take pics of them :( Lots of other parts have been delivered so Rick has told me I...

Still nothing exciting to post, wood for the furniture hasn`t turned up. ETA Monday or Tuesday next week now so should have some furniture pics next week. Only progress so far is a roof vent fitted. Had to go at the back to clear the roof rack. That just needs a blind fitted now being its over...

Not much exciting to add. Vans been ply lines on the walls, floor insulation fitted and boarded, wiring for over head lighting and power points done. Wood for the furniture arrives at the builders next week so hopefully it will start to take shape soon.

Cheers for the suggestion Anton but I don`t think it will save me much. I`m planning on a pair of carriers like barn doors so each tyre would have its own hanger. The tyre is most of the weight and if I carried an extra tyre with no wheel it would have to live inside the van steeling valuable...

I think bracing off the towbar frame is my only choice. Its the only part of the van with any type of structure to attach off as sprinters are unibody and have no real chassis. I will pull the back bumper off before I start to get a final plan but I doubt I`m going to find anything worth bolting...

Aye, any trip is good . And there is plenty of beautiful places to explore without leaving the UK. Work stops me taking great chunks of time off but the idea of the camper is make the most of the weekends and being able to just sod off at short notice. 101`s are cool. Thanks for the pic. I...

2 spares is how I would like to go if possible. Like you say weight is going to come into it. I need to work out how little metal I can use to make a strong frame. I`m thinking 40mmx20mm 2mm wall should be strong enough as most off the shelf tyre carriers seam to be quite thin. Ive not really...
