Basic conversion on ours in 2012, still running it today.
7x16 Cargo Craft Conversion
I've read good reports front Neo brand also. Our Cargo Craft is built strong, had a few QC issues, but they sent a crew to our house to correct it, gotta like that for customer service.
I had them build an...
I'm not much of a carpenter for sure, but we got it worked out. Here is a dealer in Castle Rock, Colorado that sells "off-road themed" Cargo Craft trailers. I imagine one of these would have you well on the way, just finish it out to your liking. They seem like they would handle a custom...
Not sure if you want to build/modify, but our 7x16 cargo conversion is 3,000lbs loaded and I'm currently towing it with my Gen 3 Montero rated to 5K.
7x16 Cargo Conversion
We call it our hard-wall tent. Since ours was primarily a gear hauler, we kept it basic. Rugged construction, 1" welded...
Small world! I found the first example pic I could come up with to visually demonstrate my thoughts. Nice to see the inside. As an owner of 2 Gen 3 Monteros, the Fuso trucks always get my attention.
Right back atcha on the rims. Pretty ironic.
I'm running 31.5" tires now, and just finished a 4.56 gear swap to get my 5.8L Windsor back in the towing game. Did new springs front and rear to get more strength and a mild lift to boot.
If you are running taller tires, and stock 3.55...
Very nicely done! Our kids are grown and gone but we still use our 7x16 Cargo Conversion. We've even given our '95 Ford Van tow rig some upgrade attention recently. I'll likely use your sink install as a basis for ours.
7x16 Cargo Conversion
I think this is an ideal path. I have a 2wd van and tow a 7x16 cargo trailer conversion, (a big hardwall tent and gear hauler for mountain bikes, kayaks, etc.).
From time to time, I think about grafting a smaller cargo conversion box onto a cutaway chassis. The box lends itself to a build out...
Great News...this one DOES!

A page right out of @Raul's book:
265/75/16 tires, Moog CC880 and 43-1033HD Springs
Got my rear leaf springs from Junior at ATS Springs since they speak "van" and support the Ford Truck Enthusiasts forums.
Another write-up on the spring upgrade plus a bonus, genuine Moog front springs still...
Passenger front camshaft seal?
I had more trouble with this issue on our Montero Sport 3.5L, not so much on the full size Montero's but still worth a look. Hard to see the evidence with the engine shut off. The oil will drip from the timing belt cover right down onto the Alternator in the...
"Holy old thread resurrection Batman..." If you still want to do this, here's how.
I saw a post on FTE vans sub-forum asking about cluster swaps on up to '96 vans. Forgot that I did this project following an old truck forum thread. Anyhow, it can be done using an F-250/350 gas engine...
"All my misfires have been plug wires..." (sung to the tune of exes from Texas). Well except for that one time that I had a dead coil. Sounds like you nailed it but don't forget to double check the obvious items while you are in there.
I ordered/downloaded Evoscan. It is "the cats meow" for Lancer Evo folks, but it's pretty slick for OBDII scan for Montero, and will display and record a fair amount of live data. It does way more than our Montero's can feed, and I have no need to reflash the computer. Software is cheap...
That looks to be the same as the Curt and/or Draw Tite. It is different in mounting design from the OEM and will hang down lower, and the receiver tube sticks out farther to the rear, exacerbating our already relatively low departure angle problem. But it will fit, and I use Curt products on...
I also have an '06 with the OEM/Dealer installed hitch. It is a round tube design, still high, but sits a bit lower than the 01-02. Maybe the bumper layout is different like @Michael Brown mentioned? I took these pics awhile back for a contact on the West coast with a similar inquiry. Maybe...
