    89 Toyota Pickup - Cali -> Alaska -> Cali

    OME rear springs and shocks installed. I decided to leave out the extra "HD" leaf, and see how the CS019R pack settles in. Overall, I'm pleased so far. Did some light offroad travel, and it definitely takes the abuse better than the old sagged-out springs. I'm experiencing some vibration...

    3rd Gen Toyota Pickup - Budget Expo Build

    Big fan of this truck. As a new owner of an '89 extended-cab Pickup.. I hope you don't mind if I steal some of your solutions. Loving the Instagram feed as well. Best, Travis

    Thanks for the tips and links. The only leak I've found is the rubber hose section along the firewall (poor pic below). Fluid looks decent, considering the age. There's not much engagement until the bottom of the pedal stroke (shifts are clean, however), so I'll re-evaluate after the hose...

    Thanks. It's pretty incredible. No frame or body rust to be found. Amazing for a "salt state" like Utah.

    Picked up the truck today, and took it for a long drive. Pretty encouraging, but definitely some things to work on. Here's a couple pics. Needs new springs, brakes, radiator, and there's a minor clutch fluid leak. No other surprises, but I'll try to get it to a mechanic next week.

    Right now, I'm thinking of grabbing some 16" Tacoma take-offs and putting 235/85 KO2s on them. Anyone run these? I'll look into your suggestions. Thanks!

    Any of you running 235/85/16 tires?

    Oh! Didn't realize they were the same pattern/offset. Thanks!

    Any of you running 235/85/16 tires?

    I'm looking at 235s for a '89 4x4 Pickup, but have only been able to find steelies in a 16x7. Anyone know of a (hopefully black) alloy in this size for these trucks? Also, any feedback on the KO2 option?

    Thanks for the feedback. I've been looking at AT tires at the factory 31x10.5 size, but I have considered jumping to a tall(er) tire. I'll definitely pursue the truss and steering stabilizer if I do. Looks I should have the gears for it.. hopefully the engine is still producing the power. I'll...

    Thanks. Looks like it has the 4.556.

    I'm smiling already. :) I don't mind the cab size, but the depth of the bed and cab-height shell has me leaning towards a RTT as my primary sleeping quarters. Hopefully preserve the option of retreating to the bed in poor weather. As a solo traveler, I don't intend to go looking for trouble...

    89 Toyota Pickup - Cali -> Alaska -> Cali

    Thanks for the replies. I'll be honest, if Toyota made a manual access-cab off-road this year it would probably be in my garage already. That said, I've been wanting to "inherit" this 89 for a really long time. :) I know they had the head-gasket trouble, which was addressed. Timing belt and...

    89 Toyota Pickup - Cali -> Alaska -> Cali

    Greetings. I'm planning to drive, mostly solo, from California to Alaska and back this summer. I want to get off the beaten path where I can, but don't plan to do any high-risk off-roading. I've been searching for a vehicle for this task, and have primarily been looking at new or new-ish...
