I wouldn't presume to tell you what you can or cant (should or shouldn't) haul around with your 1500 (GMC?), but I have a non-cab-over 8ft 1973 Alaskan on a 96' Toyota T-100, and I got it home (about 200 miles) with the stock suspension, I wouldn't have felt comfortable going very much further...

New Owner! Thanks for the info, It turns out it is a 1971, and after looking at it in person I fell in love (dont tell my wife) so I brought it home. It has some minor rot issues around the base of the top part that raises up, but the base is excellent and the hydraulics, stove, and electrical...

Your restore is looking great. If you come across some extra money, the truck vault (www.truckvault.com) makes a great sliding and locking drawer for under your set-up, thy have a high and low profile option and if you get the all weather one, you can keep it in the bed even if the camper isnt...
