Here's the only pic's I took of my mounts. These vans have welded on hinges. I drilled bolt holes to do the 4 "outside" mounts (at the hinges). Not pictured is the backing plates on the "inside" mounts (at the seams between the doors), internal to the door. I used the largest section wide...
The original question was door mounting boxes, so here's a pic of what I did to make a door mounted rack on my Savana van.
It's hauled full gas cans, etc. to Alaska and back. I can stand on it to access the roof. I borrowed the idea from a post on this forum, Tlow's I think?, who mounted a...
The top I used for the Savanagon was of an 84ish Vanagon, as far as I know all the factory bread-box Vanagon's pretty much have the same top. They are pretty easy to track down where I live in the Pacific Northwest on Craigs. As I stated above the front box was modified significantly primarily...
Just found this at the Rostra site ... perhaps the dealer is on to something.

I just had an issue with 2011 Stabilitrak. The van started flashing the Stabilitrak warning and then promptly put the van (2011 AWD GMC) into reduced power mode. I was a long way from a repair shop so between the codes going away after shut-off/restart cycles and/or pulling the battery cables I...
I'm not sure if this is where I'm supposed to answer you or not Steve ... but how could be offended if we hijack a thread that was inactive for 4 years? If this isn't proper etiquette, I apologize.
Short answer on leaks is my top is sealed up very well. Unfortunately, I am not as efficient...
Andrew11 ... you're rig is looking good. I am loving my "Savanagon" for travel and camping. I just noticed your question from March 15. This info may be too late ... sorry I was asleep at the wheel and didn't see your question on rear hinge mounting. I just built a spacer to take the load...
This simple light weight popup camper is in excellent condition and ready for your summer and winter outings. This camper has no kitchen or appliances, just a couple of cabinets, at table, and a fold out queen size (64"x80") bed. Roamin' Chariot was built in Spokane and is a competitor to the...
Random question, getting a 2011 Savana AWD but haven't take delivery yet. Can the blank accessory switch panels in the center dash adjacent to the cigarette lighter be removed without removing the dash?
I said it was a random question, go easy I'm a first time poster.
Have you considered adding to the pull out portion of the bed? If you added a foot you'd pick up quite a bit of foot and head room and I bet you'd still have space for changing and entering the bed.
