I want to paint the plastic body panels..

My Monstaliner has been on for at least three years now, maybe four, and it still looks great. Stuff is tough too! I slid into a metal post in the snow, and it went all the way down the rear bumper (like 2-3 feet of sliding against the post). The Monstaliner took the red paint off the post, but...

Tires... I am due for set. What are you rockin' on your Gen 3 Monty?

Yeah, there's one close to my house. I go there for my cars. Great shop. Good prices and friendly folks. When I buy, I'll definitely check them out first. Those Falken AT3 seem like they will be my #1 choice right now. They're well reviewed (here and elsewhere) and the price cannot be beat...

I want to paint the plastic body panels..

I don't know if you want to go this route, but I did "Monstaliner" on my whole Monty and I have been really pleased with it, it has held up very well for several years and is tough as nails. You apply it with a paint roller. It's easy and looks great.

Tires... I am due for set. What are you rockin' on your Gen 3 Monty?

Thanks all! This is fantastic info. I've been running a set of Wrangler (SRA, I think) tires I got at Walmart (due to a blowout I had on a road trip, and I needed tires anyway, so I said what the hell and get a set). They were the cheapest "light truck" tire that was in stock. I have to say, I...

Tires... I am due for set. What are you rockin' on your Gen 3 Monty?

Guys, I am going to be due for a set of tires shortly. I am curious what you are using. My Gen 3 is all stock, but I'd love to put the biggest, nastiest option I can. TIA for any advice!

Anyone else have starter/relay issues with a Gen. 3? Curious if anyone has experienced a similar problem.

Got a new solenoid. Going to to install and see if it helps. Will update after the work is complete.

Anyone else have starter/relay issues with a Gen. 3? Curious if anyone has experienced a similar problem.

Okay, my Gen 3 has an odd starting problem and before I tear into it or start lobbing parts at the problem, I wanted to see if anyone here had this issue or something like it. Often, when I start the engine, it takes 2-3 twists of the key from "acc" position to "start" position, before the...

    Nice seat covers, dirt cheap

Just a quick thread, thought it might be useful to some folks... I've been looking around at seat covers for a while. My Monty's front seats are pretty beat and I mainly use it as my property maintenance truck for our rental properties (when I am not camping or off-roading). I'm always getting...

Why does my gen 3 feel like crap on highway?

Hmmmm... I did get new brakes not too long ago myself. Perhaps I will remove the wheels and inspect them against before I take it to the mechanic.

Why does my gen 3 feel like crap on highway?

It's funny, I have been having a similar issue with my Gen 3 as well. Around 50 MPH it has a deep ... I don't know... rumble/vibration of sorts. I am running 100% stock gear, with normal sized tires. It's really hard to put my finger on the issue, and I have had the same tires for 30k miles. It...

    Gen 3 grinding noise

What plh said above. Default for the Gen 3 is 4wd, when the vacuum "switch" that puts it in 2wd starts to fail, you get that issue. You can get the generic part that usually fails from Amazon pretty cheap (like $25 IIRC). I hear the OEM part lasts longer though (I think it is around $120)...

Purchase opinions for son's first car

I think this is an astute comment. I love the Montero, I really think it is one of the best rigs out there you can buy, and is totally underrated. It is dependable, efficient for what it is, and really well designed. That said, I would not buy one for my kids first car. There's another post...

    Gen 3 replacement alternator?

Just an FYI - I had to do my Gen. 3 alternator in 2011. I bit the bullet and replaced it with an OEM. It has been 6+ years an not a hiccup since.

Looking to Buy a GEN III

I'll relate a couple of stories, first about my Gen. 1 1987 4Runner. I loved that SUV, and drove it everywhere for years. Finally I was ready for bigger and better things, but my truck was still in very good shape, and I sold it to a kid in the mountains of NC. My last words to him were, "Be...

Looking to Buy a GEN III

So, here's some info from Gen. owner - They are great, great vehicles. If I found another with low miles I would buy it tomorrow. Mine has 200k on it and has only had standard maintenance and a replaced alternator. If you get a good one, they are bulletproof. I use one as my business vehicle...
