Sojourn

For me, there are few things that are more gratifying, while awaking all your senses, than immersing yourself in an unfamiliar city, place or activity. Especially when experienced with my family, my wife and two daughters.

Whether challenges and their eventual conquest or those amazing encounters that are "in your face" awesome that result from being a stranger in a strange place can effect you in ways not always apparent at first. Sometimes I do not fully grasp it's impact until months or years later when I am reminded of the experience by looking at an image, hearing a forgotten tune or catching a whiff of an aroma that takes me back to re-live that moment in time.

In my book, longer is better when it comes to sojourns. However, regardless of the amount of time I am able to stay, I believe that every place I have had the privilege to experience has permanently effected me in some way. Many times the brevity of a day trip only serves to intensify it's essence and it's impact on me.

I am afflicted with the travel bug. A gypsy at my core, forever on a quest to see what is beyond the horizon. Carpe Diem!
