VHF/UHF mobile antenna ground plane question...

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! I am also an advocate of a true through-roof NMO mount, but my only concern was the positioning of the antenna should I decide to upgrade to a larger rack in the future, such as a full size ARB expedition mesh-floor roof rack. I really hate doing anything...

VHF/UHF mobile antenna ground plane question...

Having just recieved my first technician HAM license (KF7TBF), I managed to acquire a Kenwood TM-D710a dual band 2m/70cm radio and a Larsen NMO 2/70B antenna as an early Christmas gift and I plan on installing them on my 2000 Jeep Cherokee (XJ). I have done a lot of research regarding ground...

Shelby & Fort Benton, Montana: a weekend expedition

No, I am not really sure what the purpose of that thing was. It was neat to look at, but it didn't look "seaworthy" and it was out in a field, not even close to a body of water.

Shelby & Fort Benton, Montana: a weekend expedition

Headed back down the trail and up another ravine. The ravine was really cool because it wandered way back up into the country and I could picture cowboys and indians riding horseback up the trail, then possibly being attacked by indians! Seemed kind of neat that here I am in the 21st century...

Shelby & Fort Benton, Montana: a weekend expedition

On to Fort Benton! Fort Benton was an important stop on the Missouri River during the Lewis & Clark expedition. It turned into a very lawless town and daily death on mainstreet was not uncommon. An old schoolhouse, just north of the turn-off to Fort Benton along highway 87: Found a trail...

Shelby & Fort Benton, Montana: a weekend expedition

I found a really old abandoned farm house a few hundred yards off the highway across the tracks and trekked through knee-deep frozen snow to check it out. Judging by the wiring in the walls and architecture, i'd say it was built in the early 1900's, possibly wired later (20's or 30's)...

Shelby & Fort Benton, Montana: a weekend expedition

During a lazy weekend while attending MSU-Northern in Havre, I decided to take the new Jeep out for some adventures to explore the surrounding area and distant towns. (Sorry for the crappy quality of the pics, they were taken using my cell phone) I started out following highway 2 along the...

    Post Pic's of your Jeep

They are the old BFG mud-terrains. 33"x12.5"x15. I also had a set of bald 35"x12.5"x16" BFG all-terrains, but i recently traded them for a new snowboard & bindings. As soon as my current tires wear out, i'm planning on getting a set of 35" kevlar Goodyears.

    Northern Montana...

I have lived in the Puget Sound area all my life and I can agree that the Olympic peninsula is beautiful. Washington really gets a bad rap because of the rain. In all honesty, it does rain quite a bit in the winter season and can be gloomy at times, but the spring, summer & fall months make up...

Yikes! Safety first is an understatement!

I normally use solid landscaping stones that i borrow out of the yard, so no worries there! No, but you can see they base of one in the last photo, still holding up part of the frame. I think they were custom made by my grandpa who was a welder & machinist during the war. I'd say they were...

Yikes! Safety first is an understatement!

Yes, I should've supported the frame with cinder blocks or something solid that wouldn't have tipped. Chocking the wheels would've helped a little too. Two of the jack-stands I was using to support the frame were of poor design and one of the welds that held the bracing material between the legs...

Yikes! Safety first is an understatement!

I was digging through some old pics I found on my cell and found these. I was rebuilding my front end after repairing the infamous crack in the "frame" at the steering box after NAXJA's NWFest and one of the legs on a jackstand gave out. I was in such a hurry to complete one of the phases of...
