I don't even think it's a great move by Trek. They were making their money on GF already, and many people who had a Trek stigma would still ride a Gary Fisher. Win-win for Trek. Now only Trek fans will want to play. Not to mention how fugly a superfly will now be.

They definitely project further up top, but another thing to consider is whether or not they must be covered while on the road.
In NH, they do not have to be covered while on-road as long as they are not mounted higher than the headlights, which is kind of nice.

I have the same ARB bumper, but have a shovel on quickfists mounted to the top tabs. My 48" hi-lift is in the bed, on the passenger bedside above the wheel arch, using the hi-lift 4x brackets. Been there for a long time now, it's holding up great.

Poly Performance sells Nordskog digital gauges in amber. I've been considering adding the outside air and voltmeter gauges to my overhead.

I did not even buy another threaded fitting for mine (2007 Taco). You can remove the check-valve's rattle cap portion easily with pliers and a bit of gentle prying under the lip with a screwdriver. The resulting nipple is easily long enough to retain a breather hose.
