Also something to keep in mind if you are still interested in a newer vehicle is keep an eye on ford with the new Bronco 4 door. That is shaping up to be a good tradeoff for people who enjoy the wrangler experience but still want a decent driver that is also quite capable.
The benifits of the jeep are the solid axles offroad but without a long arm kit they ride like ass on pavement. If you are just doing basic overlanding and dirt roads usually having a wrangler is overkill and wasted money. The Gladiator is useless for serious offroad their wheelbase is way too...
I cant really speak to much here however one area I am decently knowledgeable in is the Axles. As for what you have if I'm not mistaken the non rubicon LJ still has the Dana 35 rear and Dana 30 front. Those are junk and I would get rid of them as soon as possible. I've had that axle combination...
Welcome to the neighborhood. I grew up in Prescott, currently live up the road in camp verde/rimrock area by Montezuma's well. Hope to see you out there on the trails one day. Would love to see your XJ. I can honestly say your youtube video was the inspiration behind my recent XJ purchase...
If you are looking for international support of the big 3 in NA I'd say stick with Ram, Cummins has engines and service centers on every continent and with Ram you are not limited to a specific dealership, any shop that supports Cummins can work on the Ram trucks.

For reference this is my truck. It's a 98 2500 HD 5.7L. All I have in it is a detroit no slip mechanical Locker In The rear and an Eaton E-Locker in the front on stock tire size and suspension with traction boards and a hi lift jack and it will go anywhere and get out of anything.

Ground clearance is helpful but not as big of a deal as you would think at first glance. Ground clearance is always measured off the lowest hanging point which should be your center Diff on the rear axle. Contrary to belief there is only two modifications that can increase ground clearance, one...
The e-series Van's never came in 4x4. If you are starting scratch you will need a full 4x4 conversion which adds about $3k-$10k depending on parts, and labor. The 4x4 Van's you see running around on here are all converted Van's, ford does do factory dealer conversions but the 4wd system was...
Ok so it's an RV term for regular camping. Never owned an RV or even been in one. I always just had a 2 person dome tent, fishing rod, and axe strapped to my ATV and camped wherever we decided to stop.

The point of a turbo is to get a more complete burn off existing fuel by increasing the air content. The opperating concept behind the turbo in a gas burner vs a diesel is diffrent, gas burners use turbos to force more air to be able to burn more fuel increasing power. They get their economy by...
Less speed less RPM. Diesel does not use air flow to determine engine speed it uses fuel. Less RPM =less fuel. If you can gear it to run the same RPM at 70mph as it does now at 60 you can expect similar MPG at 70.

The size may be its only downfall but it is a massive one.
Jeeps were made for the offroad community thus their size has been closely regulated for years, the ram not so much. The ram is hands down superior to the wrangler for overlanding and general off road use but for the hardcore niche...
The PW has one thing most new rigs dont. The solid front axle on coils sets it up as a capable and promising long term on/off road rig. Not to mention the factory warn winch and lockers, the truck out the box is almost on par with the rubicon as far as off road capabillity.
