First time camping with a crawling baby. Any tips?

One of the things I've really appreciated getting once I started taking my son camping is a small adjustable lantern. I use the Black Diamond Moji, it's adjustable from 4 to 100 lumens, and remembers the setting you shut it off at. 100 is bright enough to read bedtime stories, and 4 is nice when...

The quest for the perfect family (5 of us) overlanding/camping setup....

I'm enjoying reading the experiences and opinions here. It is helping me think thru what I may do. I've got a family of 3, soon to be 4, with a pair of dogs and I'm considering a change in equipment. What I'm currently using is a Browning Glacier tent (made by Alps Mountaineering) for the family...

Tembo Tusk Scottle Recipes, Tips and Tricks

Saw this video recently making pepper steak on a disc-it (Same idea as the skottle). I haven't tried it yet, but plan to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQn93a2pMdE

    Another XJ camper Build

My wife wouldn't stop me, but she'd make it known she doesn't approve. The biggest setback would be making the front look acceptable. Plus I really have too many other projects I need more time for. But I've got this XJ carcass I've been parting out, might as well use it for something since...

    Utility trailer camping pod?

I've contemplated doing something similar using a surplus S-788 shelter. http://www.gichner.us/s-788.html I may still go that route if I can figure out a layout that works. I haven't seen many other options for a modular type set-up.

    Another XJ camper Build

I'll be interested to see your final product. I haven't yet been able to convince my wife that this is an acceptable plan for my old XJ shell.

Tembo Tusk Scottle Recipes, Tips and Tricks

Good to know. If I can get the cooking method sorted, I'll probably modify the legs to add in some height and leveling ability. At 6'1", the skottle sits a bit low for my liking.

Awesome. I'll try that next time I use it. Sounds like that may be the solution I need.

Tembo Tusk Scottle Recipes, Tips and Tricks

This is helpful information. I've been having trouble adjusting to using the skottle, both with the temp settings and the "active" shuffling things off/on the hotspot. Some things work okay (mostly meat), but I'm fighting a lot of it. I really want it to work, but feel like I may end up...

What should I be using to drag large trees?

I'm in the chain camp as well, for many of the same reasons all ready mentioned. I think they hold up to abuse a bit better than a cable or strap. I keep it in a bucket, keeps it from getting tangled, and makes it easy to move around. Plus the bucket can come in handy for other uses too. Sent...

Tembo Tusk Scottle Recipes, Tips and Tricks

This is the closest thing I've found, with handles low enough to be used as both a pot or a lid: http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00DE1BTXE/ref=psdc_289818_t2_B003YL3MJS I'd just prefer something without a non-stick coating. Too bad the interior on that pot isn't hard anodized like the exterior.

A single handle would be too wide, but a pair of looped handle like the lid uses now should have plenty of room in the bag. I've been casually looking for a pot that would serve this function, but haven't found anything quite what I want. I'll check out some woks. I've got an old Tramontina 10"...

If this lid had handles on the side, it'd be much more versatile. Then you could use it as a serving dish, wash bowl, and potentially a cooking pot, etc. I know the handle is easier to use on the top, but the compromise for added function I think is worth it.

    Shovel recommendations? Seems simple but....

I really liked the Fiskar shovel I had with a metal handle. That thing was solid. Unfortunately someone decided they needed it more than I did, and my local hardware store doesn't carry them anymore. When my fiberglass one breaks I'll get a replacement from Amazon, or do like dumprat and weld up...
