Fuel Tanks and Jerry Cans relating to Fuel Range

The whole trip from the DC area up and back was about 4222 miles. On the Trans Taiga at 381km is Mirage. That is your only gas stop on the entire road. To the north end you go start to finish 666km, to the southern end you go almost 700km. One way. From Mirage I could have done either the north...

Fuel Tanks and Jerry Cans relating to Fuel Range

If you are planning a trans Taiga trip, take extra fuel. You have 1 fuel stop and that’s it. My ram 1500 with a 33 gallon tank pulling a Patriot Campers X3 needed 15 extra gallons to do both the north and south ends of the Trans Taiga. Take the extra fuel. If you need it you have it. If you...

Trans Taiga North and South ends 9/19-10/2/2025

I would say that in the winter I would only do the north end as the road is wider. But in the winter it’ll be very cold. The TT route is to the left in the pic, the 2023 route to Newfoundland is on the right. Let me know if you need more details.

About to pull the trigger on an Xpedition voyager, any real competition I’m missing?

For a budget of $80K look at Patriot Campers. If I recall the X1 might work for you with the kids room.

    How to camp with dogs!

I took my pup from Maryland to Newfoundland, then through Labrador and back home. About 5,000 miles. I made sure the space in the back seat of the truck was very comfy for her to lay down in multiple ways. In addition to hanging her head out the window for turbo sniffs. In New England and...

    Can we talk coffee brewing?

I’m going to be one of those guys. It depends on the day, who’s with me, etc. I have a stove top espresso machine, percolator, French press and sometimes pour over. If it’s just me and I’m breaking camp after I have the espresso. If others are with and I’m at camp, I do the percolator. If...

Rambox or Not for new PW build.

I have a 1500 with RamBoxes. I love the locking ability of the boxes and places to stash items. BUT if you want to put anything over your bed, I would advise against them. No RTT, racks, or anything. Now given the 1500 is a daily driver not a dedicated overlander I would not change my choice.

Camp Chef Everest 2X propane hose

I have the Camp Chef Everest 2X and would like to have a different set up than the regulator for 1lb propane canisters to a hose for bulk propane. Camp chef suggested I go with https://www.campchef.com/mountain-series-bulk-tank-hose-%26-regulator-%7C-camp-chef/CC-MS40-6R.html, but I want a 90...

A Frame Pop Up Campers: Best Mods

I had a Classic (sold it for a Patriot Campers X3) and I would suggest you join the FB groups for A-frame trailers. Some mods off the bat: Add a bar running the width of the camper through the springs to prevent them rotating Replace all screws with something stronger and more secure (rivets...

    Planning a Trans-Labrador trip

I just got back from a Nova Scotia-Newfoundland-Labrador trip. Honestly I had a vehicle pass me going the other direction about once every 1.5-2 hours. Even more frequent closer to Happy Valley/Goose Bay and Churchill falls and again near Labrador city. So if you are worried about no help...

Who Still uses cast iron while traveling?

I mainly cook with cast iron. Breakfasts require a skillet and bacon, then cook the tater tots in the bacon grease, then crack some eggs in the skillet to finish up. Amazing bacon with crispy tots and perfect sunny side up eggs. That keeps me full till dinner. Almost. Otherwise the legless...

    TetonX Hybrid

I have yet to get it. Currently stuck in customs in Houston. Fingers crossed it'll come out of hock this week. In June I'll be heading to Newfoundland and Labrador so I plan to use the X3 extensively whenever I can.

    TetonX Hybrid

Wow, I had a deposit with them last year and pulled it so I could pull the trigger on a Patriot X3. Kinda glad that worked out the way it did, because had I kept the place with Teton X, I would be so very pissed right now.
