One-of-a-kind Toyota Tacoma with Custom Flatbed Camper

Yes, it is true. With a heavy heart I am selling my beloved Tacoma build. I am the original owner of this truck and have spent more time and money on this build over the past decade than I care to admit. Top-of-the-line upgrades and modifications have eventually found there way onto this build. This truck was my baby and I religiously kept up on the maintenance to hopefully ensure another adventure-filled 150,000+ miles, at least. Inspired by Australian designs, the custom camper build took 8 months to complete, as documented on my Youtube* series. I have lived on the road since 2021 and out of this camper since it's completion in early 2023. This thing is tried, tested and solid. The only reason for selling it is to pursue another build that will have some personal preference differences to accommodate full-time living better. Otherwise I would keep this thing forever.

Allow me to introduce Ronan.

  • Extra goodies: Autotech 250a alternator (hasnt been installed yet), new Total Chaos UCA bushings and uniball for rebuild when needed, extra pair of lid struts
  • I still have the back seats if you no longer desire the rear seat delete
  • Through an app, I have kept track of nearly every fuel fill-up since 2017. If you’re curious, the truck averages 12-15 mpg on Ethanol Free / Premium ; 10 - 13 on Mid - Grade / Regular; 8 - 10 with a headwind. Highway speeds, it gets the best fuel mileage around 65 - 70 mph.
  • I’ve also kept track of maintenance service / dates / mileage in little log books for the past few years. Prior to that are toyota dealership service records.
  • I have the original purchase paperwork from the dealership when I drove it off the lot in November 2014
  • Title in hand
"What's wrong with it?" - This is just to be as transparent as possible with all the minor or nit-picky issues. No hidden surprises. I want you to know the good and bad.
  • I've taken this thing on countless offroad miles so yes, exterior surface pinstripes exist. I'll try and get it polished up for the new owner if I have time.
  • The e-locker motor either needs to be serviced or replaced. It recently got stuck on and despite hearing the actuator murring, I had to open the housing and manually unlock it. Reading up, this happens sometimes as it gets gunked up or looses strength to work.
  • The driverside lower control arm bushing creaks. I installed Whiteline bushings and eventually they just started making noise. The bushings are still solid, as checked by a mechanic. So it's more of annoyance than anything else.
  • The fridge's internal compressor housing has come loose so there's rattling on bumpy roads. I reached out to SnoMaster and they said there isn't anything you can do about it. The fridge works great regardless. It's just another annoying noise as it's located in the cab (if you couldn't tell, I'm not a fan of annoying noises)
  • The truck VIN may or may not have an accident reported on it. That would be from an insurance claim to cover some passenger-side cosmetic damage from a recovery. There was absolutely no impact, roll-over, nothing like that. Honestly, I'm not entirely sure if it even comes up, but for the record if it does, that's what it was from.
  • The DC to DC charging isn't the best it could be due to the wrong size (small) gauge wire being installed (not my doing) from the alternator to the back. A thicker gauge wire needs to be installed to utilize maximum alternator output. I even have an upgraded aftermarket alternator to put in when that happens. The current wiring job for this was disappointing, so just a heads up on that.
  • The draining of sink water into the gray water tank works but I feel like it could be improved as sometimes it's rather slow. (My perfectionism is flaring up).
  • The stock stereo unit is starting to go out. It'll randomly turn off then back on again. Could just be a wire coming loose for all I know. I'd wanted to upgrade it at some point, so I've never bothered chasing it down.
  • One side of the engine block has just the ever so slightest seepage. A dust-moistening seepage, if you will. It's not like a wet seepage or dripping by any means. It's just there. I've been meaning to try my hand at an engine gasket swap but haven't had time.
  • The shocks are closer due for a rebuild than not. There's time on them but they'll need servicing coming up.
  • The MaxxAir fan lid on the roof got tweaked just enough that it barely doesn't close perfectly flush. It still does its job and does NOT leak or anything like that. Those lids are easily replaceable.
  • Some personal Nit-Picks about the camper:
    • The door is rather small. This is probably the number one design flaw. It's seemingly super cool, it does the job, but it's on the narrow side and not ergonomically designed.
    • Unbeknownst at the time of building, non-stainless hardware was used, so now the screws sport a copper color to match the interior.
    • The camper lid was wickedly over-engineered meaning it's structurally sound but pretty darn heavy. Upgrading the struts to 200lbs would greater assist opening - it opens just fine now but could be better.
  • Because of the heavy lid, the camper is noticeably top heavy on tighter turns going at higher speeds (highway). I've considered airbags to help counter this. Another option would be adding a sway bar, but that would likely need be a custom one. Since there's already onboard air, adding airbags would be pretty easy.

TL-DR - This truck is turn-key, ready to go. It's bad*ss and gets all the gas station convo's going. It's not showroom flawless but boy will it take you anywhere you want to go.
