Awesome episode, Dan! Neither of us had Iceland on our radar, but your videos are changing our minds.

It's always been low-key on my radar.
If I knew how utterly incredible it really is, it would have been MUCH MUCH higher.

I have INSANE videos and photos to share!!

Hands down, not even close the most breathtaking place I've ever been. Repeatedly.

Hi All,
I've been eager to get up into the heart of Iceland to (What I think must be) the most impressive mountains. To get there we drive the F821 - one of the steepest and highest roads in the entire country.
After a ton of switchbacks we arrive on a martian landscape so legit the Apollo astronauts literally trained here.

Camping at a wild hot spring never hurts, and of course monster glaciers and snow capped mountains add to the adventure.

I've also just posted the adventure in video format to YouTube:

Grazie Dan,

Thanks for keeping us in your travels!

Love following you though your JKUR, JTR, JLUR builds and subsequent journeys!

You've shown me how to properly kit out my four door Jeep JKU Willys for long distance travel!

Oh, and thanks for the discount codes, they came in handy!!

I'm researching a retirement trip to Iceland ( inspired by you) then through DK,FL,NO, on through Switzerland, then to my family home in Oneta, a comunale in the provincia di Lucca,Tuscany.

looking forward to the rest your current journey through Europe!

Oh, how are those Geolander AT4 's holding up?

I'm in need of new tires and am moving up from 255-75R17 to 255-80R17, The AT4 comes in a 255-80R17.

What's your thoughts on those tires?

Milli Grazie,
Carlo

My wife and I do two-week vacations every June to escape the Cedar Gnats that come out during that month. (Avoid SW CO and southern Utah in June...)

We went to Iceland in 2022 and 2024. Rented a Jimny with a RTT both times and had the time of our lives! This summer we'll visit British Columbia, but I am confident that we will be back in Iceland in 2026. I could live there, particularly in the West Fjords. I wish it was easier for a US citizen to get a job in Iceland. And to buy property for that matter...

I believe you blamed the ban on wild camping on Covid, but it actually happened in 2017, having everything to do with a significant increase in tourism in the last decade.

I believe there ARE a few places you can wild camp, but there are very specific requirements. Look into it if you will be in the highlands, as camp areas are not always convenient there.

The best Icelandic hot dog we had was at the grill in the Olis gas station in Borgarnes. The ones in Reykjavik are terrible in comparison. :)
In the eastern part of Iceland, we found a few places with all you can eat fish soup and bread specials. Mmmmm

Thanks for sharing your videos!

I've been keeping an eye for the next videos! Patiently waiting! Are they coming out soon? I checked to make sure I hadn't missed any.

I've been following since Africa and look forward to your following your adventures.

I hope all is well with you and your family on this trip.

We've been so busy having adventures with our little monkey... ah I mean 1 year old daughter... that I just have not found the time to edit together more videos.

I have so much to show you all.. I promise it is coming!

I've encountered something like that N AZ, around Sedona once, and another year on the west side of the North Rim... but earlier in the year, more like now. Not fun! I've worked at Bryce Canyon a couple seasons and never experienced them... maybe too high.

Understood! My trip to CO last summer was in our minivan with our kids, rather than my JLU. Kids keep you busy!

Hi Everyone,

Apoligies for the big delay, we've been so busy having big adventures across multiple continents I didn't find the time to edit video. Now I have!

In this one we drive up an active volcano in Iceland on a breathtakingly clear & sunny day.
These are the adventures that I live for, and they make all the hard work worth it!

Here is the video version.
I'm always trying to improve my videos - to really make it feel like the viewer is there with us and to give a great sense of what it really looked like on the day. I'd love any and all feedback on your thoughts on what is good about this video, and what I can do to improve!

Cheers,

-Dan
