Box Truck - Raise Section of Roof

Howdy

I have a Box Truck based camper which is made in Australia by a company called Thermax. It is 'K' value for insulation which is apparently awesome.

I want to raise the section of the box roof for more headroom when stopped.

I can make it solid, or pop top style, either is fine. The roof is about 100mm thick and made of foam around an aluminium and timber core. I would love to reuse the piece I cut out, but thats not 100% necessary.

Thoughts on how you would go about this and what you would recommend. I found these windows that are pretty narrow, which once installed would raise the vehicle about 400mm. The current height is about 2200mm from the ground.

I appreciate its pretty vague, just after thoughts.

Yep.
Opened, closed and locked at one spot entirely from the inside.
3 big zip open/closed windows for maximum ventilation.
Cheers,
Peter

It sounds like you'll be cutting aluminum and timber as well as foam. Do you have any details of that structure?

Cutting off the top in one piece and adding sidewalls would probably be the best.

Hi. the roof is 1800mm high. Fine for me as I’m 175cm but want more open space.
Rigs always involve compromise, and there are good aspects to not being too tall. If it was me, tall enough to stand would definitely be tall enough... especially for something that is already made.

Hi And thanks.

I will chase up the structural engineering of the box to check.

The manufacturer is not far away from me.
cheers
