Well I haven't accomplished to much on the trailer over the summer, due to the heat and also working my butt off, to get into my and the trailer's new home.
So it's been about 7 weeks since i broke my hand......I'm back to work now. Should be able to get some major work done once i get caught up.
Here's some pics of after surgery and after pin was pulled out.
Yes the pin is sticking out
Here's the pin out.....they just pull it out with a...
I went with 3"x4" .120 wall.....mine is a lot heavier.... You should be fine even off road.
As far as frame design I'd start over.....as mentioned before, main frame rails should be continuous.... Sorta like mine.
My tongue is 3x3x3/16.
I don't have pictures of it but both small boxes...
So I had some time on my day off today, I was working on the trailer getting some parts installed.
Here's me putting on the coupler, torquing it down the spec.
Old-school way of setting the bead on tires
While I was mounting the tires I lowered the Jack a little bit so I didn't have to...
My new led lights
My high beams
High beams with LEDs
Also went geocaching in the desert had the wife drive this section.....she got a little freaked went the right front dropped
I built my own custom axle similar to this but, I used a sterling 10.5 axle ends. My trailer will be pushing 5k and I used .250 wall tubing, more than enough. As for yours the I would use the .250 wall just to be sure, you don't want to dent the tube or have it bend on the trail. Also don't...
Here's the parts that have showed up, just waiting on another set of hangers.
The wife being funny.

The trailer should be making progress here shortly.....everyday I've been getting Bowes in the mail or the wife has been picking up parts for me. Pic will be coming soon.
2000 Excursion with a 7.3 PSD,37x12.50's on steel wheels and full size spare inside. 7" lift all springs(dang they are heavy/12 leafs per corner)No bumpers/no armor. Loaded for weekend(3day) with myself and 2 other adults and 3 kids.
Depending on how difficult the roads you plan on going on, depends on what the trailer needs.
I would make sure all the wiring is well protected along with some sort of protection for any light that "stick out".
Other than that just make sure trailer is good shape and well maintained.
That sounds like a good deal for aluminum.
If it is overkill, is it going to be to big for your tow rig or just for your gear. It's always better have to much room than to much stuff.
Just a FYI it is a long road to go down to build your own trailer, but I feel it is worth it.
I am going use gear oil. I'm having
A shop build custom axle ends with pop out plugs like semi trailers have. Just so I can keep an eye on oil levels and quality.
Also going to install a drain plug for the whole axle housing.
Haha, guess I uploaded to many pics at the same time to 3 different forums, used to much bandwidth had to pay for photobucket. Pics can now viewed in the thread, lol
