    Edgestar Fridge Modifications Thread

Agreed that the SB50 is way overrated for the amps of a fridge, but there is next to no chance it will become accidentally disconnected. I tried to source the parts to make one with a lower rated anderson pole, but I couldn't find that bungy cord. If you contact the seller, they might sell you...

    Charcoal storage bag

I use an old IKEA blue bag to minimize mess inside the cabin. It does a good enough job and does double duty for collecting firewood. Granted it wouldn't be ideal in an exposed trailer/truck bed.

    Buying my First FJ80 LandCruiser.

To the OP, just go in with your eyes open. You can easily spend $2500 getting up to date on the obvious maintenance. This is changing all fluids, checking all rubber hoses/lines cooling and brakes, etc. What condition is the suspension and all bushings? Does it have obvious oil leaks? Is the...

Slumberjack roadhouse tarp / any other users?

I just got one of these and have used it for two weeks this summer. Overall I really like it. I have a couple of extra poles that I use to help it out. I've set it up both on the vehicle and also as stand alone configuration. I was "lucky" to be able to use it during monsoon season so it saw...

    Artic Cove 18 volt Mister

I see lots of them at swim meets and those folks who have them say they like them. I've decided to go the DIY method.

Renogy 100 watt solar suitcase kit

I know this doesn't help, but I bought mine off Amazon in July and it arrived within 2 days.

Shower solution -- cheap, simple, and effective?

I've been using a solar shower for the past 20 years. I've been using the same one for the last 10 years with 30 days per year or more of use. The only problem I usually had was where to mount it. Then I just started putting it up on my vehicle and it has been easy ever since. Water too hot? Add...

    Solar Component Selection 1120W System

Be careful running your panels in series. If you are running with the Outback Flex 60, it has a max 150V load IIRC. In cold weather it is possible for your voltages to trigger a shut down. It has been reported to me by a local installer that the Flex 60 can shut down at voltages between 135-140V.

    Yet another Solar Newbie question...

I had the same issue with my battery. I took some aluminum angle stock for both sides. I did wrap mine up with electrical tape first. I would recommend that for your rebar if you are worried about the slim chance of arcing. R

    Expedition Overland - 2015 Season

Yeah, it looked like the Tacoma had an easier time with the mud. Was it the driver or the Tacoma itself do you think? I was surprised.

DE V - Parashant Trip Report

One of my favorite backcountry hikes was down Parashant Canyon about 15 years ago. It was full on off trail travel and required climbing. Did you guys hike down and see the narrows?

    Water purifying

I use Polar Pure. It is essentially a rechargeable saturated iodine solution. It doesn't have an iodine taste. Sadly, it is off the market. Tweakers can use it I guess to cook meth.

using natural water sources.. water filtration..

Water for showers doesn't really need to be filtered. Can't you just boil the water you will use to wash up? K.I.S.S. If silty, let it sit in a bucket overnight to settle. You ca use alum to flocculate the clays if present.

    How do you do it!?!

FZJ80, with a wife and three children 9-14. Fitting everything in is a struggle, but we have it down to a science that works for us. #1, rear bumper carrier can hold 20 gallons of water. I don't have to carry water in the truck. #2, Yakima skybox. It is a big one and hold all the sleeping...

    Goal Zero Yeti 400 Experiences?

I have had a similar fantastic customer service experience with Goal Zero too. I was headed off to do field work and my old Sherpa 50 died two days before I was scheduled to go. I had a replacement the next day. A brand new Sherpa 50 with all the new connectors.

He may have misinterpreted the request and thought the chain had failed and not some sort of irregular PM.

    Gas Leak at Altitude

You had boiling gas. It is pretty common in the FZJ80 series, I don't know how common it is in the 100/470 series. As previously posted check your EVAC system. Could be the charcoal canister has failed or the VSV associated with the EVAC system.

Goal Zero Nomad 13.5 Vehicle Battery Charging Setup

Thread Resurrection! The Sherpa 50 has performed great paired with the Nomad 13.5 panels, though I have found that the stated solar charging times to be optimistic. I was able to run my laptop (an old MacBook Air) for 2-3 hours depending on what I was doing. I would leave the set up charging...
