Mounting brackets for Scepter military fuel canisters?

Just wondering if anyone has tried the marine style cans? Besides not being able to interchange between fuel and water, and having a stinky fuel hose, they seem like a suitable option. They mount flat, and you could refuel without unloading. Mind you, they are meant for outboard motors, so...

    ARBwind deflector, 5th gen 4Runner

I have the deflector, just afraid it's going to blow off with only provision for 2sided tape. Combined vehicle speed plus wind speed in Alberta is pretty fast... I agree Thule and such probably have something decent, properly fastened to boot, but on the 4Runner it will sit right on the sun...

    ARBwind deflector, 5th gen 4Runner

I have a 5th gen 4Runner with standard ARB steel rack. I purchased the rack with wind deflector, but never installed it once I saw it, I was afraid it would blow off on the freeway, and get even worse fuel mileage. Most of my commuting is 100 Kmh+ freeway driving and several times a year I do...

    Paiting a rooftop cargo box?

How about vinyl? I can't imagine prepping and painting a second time after unfortunate results the first time. Plastic just isn't suited to painting, especially a second time. successful painting is all about the prep, and there may not be a great way to clean up/blend the remaining paint.

Opinions on a soft-sided roof bag?

They all leak. All options have their drawbacks. Roof boxes are a pain to remove and store, bad on gas. Baskets are heavy and no weather protection. Roof bags ALL leak. I use one for non-sensitive items on my ARB rack(tent, sleeping pads, etc.). If you are OK with the guaranteed leak and...

Any deals on Pelican cases out there?

Underwater Kinetics. Almost as good and 1/2-2/3 the cost. Also S3 cases, but they only get so big. Access to a local dealer might offset the savings, but most dealers have special freight contracts, and pass it on to help sales.

    Propane Storage

Ammo can is a good idea, but water tight-wouldn't that be a heat build up hazard? And if it does start to leak, a bit of a bomb?

    EOS REBEL wide angle lens?

Thanks for info. I've been watching Kijiji for used lenses. They list at about 375-500 CDN on Kijiji here lately. They go on sale for ~600 on sale here. I have a couple months yet, but gonna do it.

    EOS REBEL wide angle lens?

Thank you everyone for the advice. My goal is to try and get shots with family in foreground, scenery in background. Also, just getting full mountain shots with the standard lens is difficult far away-I think it will really help in the confines of a train. If considering used, are these...

    EOS REBEL wide angle lens?

I've heard the terms crop and full frame-how do they effect zoom focal length ratings?

    EOS REBEL wide angle lens?

Yes, it came with 18-55, 75-300, 50 lenses. I have been to lookouts, etc, before and not been able to get everything with the 18-55, and when the train is close to the mountains, I am sure it will be tough to get it all. I guess "ultra wide" is the correct term? I was thinking something in...

    Indel B or ARB

If they are all made by Mobicool, how come the Mobicool ones are such crap? Canadian tire always has some in the "priced to clear returns section", and princess auto always seems to have a collection of the same said tested and returned coolers....

    EOS REBEL wide angle lens?

I am just getting into more advanced shooting with my EOS T3I. I am booked for a VIA rail trip later this year, and I want to make sure I get some great shots within the train, and the scenery outside. Has anyone got advice on a basic wide angle lens? Thanks in advance, Marc

    Oil cooler flush question.

One other thing u can do, depending on the cooler design. If it is the single continuous tube bent round and round (NO end tanks), you can fire a foam projectile through the cooler using compressed air. This is done to clean new hydraulic hoses during assembly at more professional hose...

    Oil cooler flush question.

True flushing must be done with some sort of pump system, preferably separate from your engine, with seperate reservoir and plumbing, and filtration. Also, in order to flush properly, the flow must be high enough to develop turbulent flow at the tubing walls within the cooler. Generally, a...

Help with Table for 2014 JKU

I have been toying with the idea of a custom aluminum 80/20 type frame, featuring removable platform/table, in the back of our 4Runner. Perhaps u can do the same type of thing? The design criteria I have are: 1. Storage platform above cooler, etc. doesn't need to be overly HD, heavy items...

Front Runner Full Roof Rack Installed on 5th gen 4runner

I am surprised your fuel economy didn't change. Mine dropped about 10-15% after installing the ARB rack, but it is not as low profile, and I do a lot of freeway driving with bad winds, at fairly fast speeds. Looks good!

    Cooler SIZE survey

When I bought the Engel 65, we still had a large dog, with cage. I would never have gotten 2 suitable coolers in with dog, kitchen stuff, duffle bags. Had to give up dog due to allergy issue, so in retrospect, 2 would have been preferred. However, I am hoping the divider and wire racks will...

    Propane Storage

How do you guys store your small disposable propane tanks? I was considering a pvc pipe up on the rack, with holes for ventilation. I know this would be a bit like a greenhouse, but it can't be much worse than a tank sitting on it's own in the sun. Could use white pipe to keep cooler. Any...

    Cooler SIZE survey

I have an Engel 65. It is good enough for 2 adults and 2 kids, in moderate Canadian summer temps for 2-4 days. I like beer, the wife demands a plethora of fresh fruits, and we get by. It is just big enough for our needs and trip length' and perfect length in our truck. Couldn't go bigger. I...
