Lake run?

I have zero problem with taking fish especially in a put and take. It's the mishandling of fish especially when context is not provided.

I hope I did crap on it. Because someone who reads this thread may walk away and think "hey, if I'm going to take a hero shot, I should treat the fish properly, especially if I put it back!" Maybe they'll learn the proper way to treat a trout. I will call it out every time.

Shop the bins. I just saw a z-axis 5 weight for 200 bucks. That's a rediculous rod for that price. Also, look on eBay/craigslist. By someone else's 700 dollar rod because they upgraded. You'll be buying another rod soon enough if you like it.

When? If it's early spring run off could be running full blast and change your options. Otherwise those states you list have some of the best fly fishing in north America. I could spend a month in Montana alone.

JRHetts - you are mostly correct. Fly rods cast line, not flys. Although you'd be hard pressed to cast a 2 weight as far as a 6 weight because of the line weight. Rod length also plays a factor too. But, most people never fish (or shouldnt fish) beyond 30 ft anyway. I regularly fish a 10' 4...

I think it was alluded to earlier but with a cowl style, that sticks up, would it be possible to put an extension for those rare deep fordings? Assuming you sorted out the electric etc.

Scotty - wow you missed out. I fly fish in NY all the time. Just some amazing streams. We have more fisherman, for sure but there's some out standing fishing for sure.
