Camp Cots / Pads / Mattresses

We have Cabela's Lightweight cots. Pretty low profile and pack down very small. They're a royal pain in the ******** to set up though and I'm still unconvinced the hassle is worth it. Using any other larger, folding cots is a no-go for us though since our tent is a MSR Elixir 3. Just no room.

    Tundra vs F150

I had a 2013 F150, owned it from 32000kms to 73000kms. In that time there was $7000 in warranty work done plus another $1200 out of pocket just to keep it on the road. I now drive a 2005 Tundra. I've owned it from 128000kms and currently have 175000kms on it. I've done nothing to it other than...

    Seriously??

I love my Yeti Rambler cup, but I used a gift card to buy it. I think Yeti makes great products, but they're way over priced. The bucket is just plain silly though.

Canadian mapping App. BRMB...WORTH THE MONEY!

I just tried sticking the BRMB sd card into my Samsung Tab A tablet. No joy. Not sure if I need an app or if they only work in Garmin devices

Canadian mapping App. BRMB...WORTH THE MONEY!

I ended up finding a good deal on BRMB Alberta/BC on SD cards. What would be the best way to use this for nav on a tablet? Do I need the app for that? I'm really unfamiliar with tablet mapping programs etc. I always used standalone GPS units like a Garmin Rino 530.

    Offroad tool kit

Huh. All things I use a ball peen and pry bar for. But I guess when you only want to carry one tool it'll work.

    Offroad tool kit

Very true. Interesting. Never thought of a claw hammer being used in roadside repair. I have a ball peen, and a small pry bar. In a pinch a claw hammer works as both I guess. What other things can a claw hammer be used for? Ahhh, that explains it. I thought these were roadside repair kits. I...

What are your Overland equipment must haves?

I recently bought a new chainsaw. Forgot how great a tool it is. Mine is a Stihl MS250 with a 16" bar. Big enough to drop small dead standing trees and cut any trail blocking debris and firewood but still small enough to handle easily. I won't be doing any multi day back country trips without it...

    Clutch’s deep thoughts thread...

Yeah, that makes sense. I think we'd use it quite often, however I don't have a place to store it and I don't want to leave it on the truck full time. The price on them is out of my league though too, especially as I'm in Canada. A 2015 in BC recently sold for over $30,000 Canadian. My personal...

    Clutch’s deep thoughts thread...

$20K budget? - Keep my current truck; 2005 Tundra double cab. - install better shocks, give it a full tune up (doesn't need one, but why not?) - Put the remainder towards a Four Wheel Camper The biggest reason we don't get out much is that sleep in a backpacking tent (MSR Elxir 3) sucks...

How long do kids like camping?

I'm 29 now. Spent my first night in a tent at just over a year old. My parents are very active outdoors people and as a family we went on many adventures and camping trips. The love of the backcountry never left me and led to passions like fly fishing, hunting and shooting. When I was 17, I did...

Ditching my RTT; Need ideas on Camp Set-ups - Post Pics!

We have a MSR Elixir 3. It's a 3 person backpacking tent so its set up is very quick. However, with two adults and some gear it gets cozy. On our last trip we had a bad turn of weather and ended up spending 6+ hours a day in the tent, the rest of the time huddled under a tarp by the fire. Not...

    Tonneau covers and overhead racks

Shame to hear about the KB VooDoo racks being flimsy. That was a concern I had. I was worried about lateral and wind movement with a 120lb boat on top. The rack in the picture is a Princess Auto rack that I modified and beefed up. Even it has a little bit more play than I'd like. I really like...

    Tonneau covers and overhead racks

I'm looking for an overhead rack and tonneau cover combination and need some ideas. Right now I'm leaning towards an Extang Solid Fold 2.0 tonneau and KB Voodoo's Utility Rack. I don't know if this is my best option though. I'm open to retractable tonneaus as well, though I'm not sure which I'd...

    Personal Items

My clothes, toiletry kit, book or e-reader and phone charging cables all go in my Arcteryx Covert Case C/O. Basically it's a high end carry on duffle bag. When I settle into camp for a few days, my wallet, keys, and phone get tucked into it as well so I don't lose them. I also bring a GoRuck...

    New Splitting Maul

I'm a Gransfors-Bruks fan. Not only are the razor sharp and hold an edge well, but they're beautifully crafted, well balanced and truly heirloom pieces. I hate using cheap crap.

    Backpacking/car camping setup

For a tent, have a look at the MSR Elixir 3. It's rated as a 3 person, but it's more like a very roomy 2 person. My girlfriend and I are very comfortable in it. It's also high quality and backed by a good warranty. It can be set up by one person very easily and can be split between two packs (as...
