The best kind of hard decision - Advice

I checked them both out, the 2004 actually twice, and ended up with neither one. The 2002 was simply beat. The 2004 I looked at had the knock at operating temp that lead me to believe a liner had slipped, the front shaft hadn't been replaced and there was seepage behind the heads. All things...

The best kind of hard decision - Advice

Finally decided to give in and get a discovery, the rig I've been wanting for years. With that, I'd love some advice. Tonight I'm looking at a 2004 S at a lot with only a carfax for history. It's been regularly reported to be serviced at the local LR dealership but that's it. Or, there is a...

Gen 3 - Bottle jack no longer tall enough

Didn't think about the jackstands. Not a bad idea to have along regardless, never like being under a rig with only a jack supporting it.

Gen 3 - Bottle jack no longer tall enough

Damn, that thing is pretty intense. Did you end up getting one? I'd love to hear how it works for you offroad.

Gen 3 - Bottle jack no longer tall enough

Ended up with a flat last night after having to run through some nasty flood wash. Luckily I didn't notice any loss of air until after I was home. I say luckily because with the 265/75-16's the bottle jack alone wasn't tall enough to lift the hub high enough to get the spare on. Added some...

When Mitsubishi abandoned you, you purchased......................

Sorry guys, found some bad news for us the US wanting a new Montero from Mitsubishi anytime soon. The story below is about a revamp of the brand, so maybe there's hope for the future. Hell, the world loves the Pajero so I can't imagine it wouldn't eventually come back our way...

Tires are finally in and installed!

Wow... that's a crazy ride for 5 tires. I say go for the KO2's. I went to Discount and asked about the KO's to save a few bucks and was told that they could get them for me but it would cost more than the KO2's because of it being a special order item now. May be an opportunity.

Spada Lake by Michael Berg, on Flickr Went exploring up around Spada Lake for the first time in years. Ended up getting blocked out by the forest service gates on the route I wanted. Still, we ended up having some fun at the lake until it really started dumping rain.

R50 Nissan Pathfinder vs. Gen3 Mitsubishi Montero vs. Gen3 Toyota 4Runner

I just went through a similar decision and ended up with a 2003 Montero. Other people will have a ton more info than I, but I can at least tell you why I went with the Montero. I owned a gen 2 4Runner and found the cons of the gen 3 much the same when I test drove them. I'm 6'-0" and wanted...

Gen 3 with Load Range E Tires?

The Montero got some new shoes. 265/75-15 BF Goodrich KO2. by Michael Berg, on Flickr Thanks for all the input, it's nice to read some real world experience. Ended up with the 265/75-16 KO2's, load range E, and they are great. On the road, the Montero feels more planted in the corners and...

What did you do to your Mitsubishi today?

The Montero got some new shoes. 265/75-15 BF Goodrich KO2. by Michael Berg, on Flickr Replaced the P tires with some 265/75-16 BF Goodrich KO2's. So far so good. Rig feels way more planted in the corners and stable at high speeds. Now it's time to get them dirty.

Gen 3 with Load Range E Tires?

Thanks guys. Good to hear from people running the same rig and enjoying their E tires. Puts my mind at ease with them. Pirate, you do make a good point about the weight. Maybe I'll take a look at some other brands, see whats out there. Either way I'm looking forward to getting this thing...

Gen 3 with Load Range E Tires?

Finally stepped up and bought myself a 2003 Montero. Now it's time to start planning on what to do to it. I've been looking at the 265/75-16 BFG KO2's as my first upgrade, but they only come in load range E. This will be my DD with weekend trips up the hills so I'd like to keep the road...

    Gen 3 Montero Traction Packages

Well, I've taken a look at couple 03's over the last week. One that got sold out of under me, which sucks. And the other one was far from the 'well kept' that was advertised. Right now I'm looking to take a 'well kept' 02 for a spin. But it seems like the advise here is to go with the 03+ if...
