Lewis and Clark, et. al - 2 months and 8,000 miles in a FJ40.

I've gotten pretty adept at truck camping now - easy to throw a bedroll down somewhere within walking distance, and easy to deal with the next day. Packing and unpacking were some of my least favorite things, so I try to do it as little as possible. What was your favorite part of your trip?

Hey - these are some awesome pictures! You got a view from behind the curtains, so to speak. Thanks for sharing!

Yes Sir, I believe it was. Either you have a really good eye or you were following me...... And either way is pretty cool with me!

Thanks for reading! The engine was and still is original, but we rebuilt the top end before take off. The transmission, transfer case and electrical is all still original as well. The only things I've changed have been the axles - swapped 'em with later model with disk brakes - the...

We rolled all the way downhill to the end of California and ended up in Crescent City. Which, by the way, if you ever end up there I highly suggest you make your way to the Chart Room - a fine restaurant right on the edge of the state. The hushpuppies are unlike any I'd ever eaten.

After the mountains of Northern California, we decided to roll back toward the coast and check out the Redwoods while we were in that part of the world. It'd be a shame not to have gotten to see them in person. Turned out to be some of the most awe-some scenery I'd seen. I know I say that...

These last two are from a nice little lake just west of Truckee named Lake Mary. We drove around Donner Lake and then found a road called Donner Pass that sounded nice, so we took it until we got tired. One of my favorite campsites of the entire trip. The only other company we had up there...

And here are a few while we're making our way up - and back down - the mountain we camped beneath.

This lake you see - that's somewhere close to the start of the Rubicon trail - I later learned. We were cruising around some of the trails and I thought, "Man, there sure are a lot of Super Swampers back here..." A few Jeeps, Hummers, even saw a guy trying to impress his girlfriend in a brand...

The next set of photos I have start off in SF and then trail west to Yosemite and then north to the Tahoe / Truckee area. I could see myself spending a few years around Yosemite and the surrounding area - incredibly beautiful, remote, pristine. The trails are endless, the wildlife plentiful...

And for purely illustrative purposes, here's a photo of what Big Sur will do to you. I had short hair and a clean face before I entered the forest.

From Nacimiento we doubled back and got on The One, as Californians would say. We headed north, ever so slowly toward SF through Big Sur. Again, for those of you that don't know, Big Sur is an incredibly rough, rocky, green, lush and dense part of the world. If any of you Easterners ever had...

You know, looking back I'm not even sure how we got there, but we spent a night or two at Lake Nacimiento just northwest of Paso Robles. It was a great place to calm down and cool off and I think we even hooked a fish or two. We still had 5 or 6 days to kill before my woman flew into San...
