    MERCEDES VARIO TYRE PRESSURES

I just had a new complete set fitted on mine. Had a long conversation with the guy who fitted them who only fits commercial and agricultural vehicles. He recommended the upper range of the recommended psi range on both and put 110psi in the front and 90psi in the back. I run at circa 2400kg on...

    Vario 814 cab heating problem

Many thanks, good advice for a simple solution. Yep, vice grips are on the shopping list. I found the missing thread though. . . it was on a Vario Facebook Group, not here. https://www.facebook.com/groups/200787029935025/search/?query=cab%20heating%20system

    Vario 814 cab heating problem

I remember that the thread I read asked if others had the same problem and someone then said there was a switch/valve/cutoff under the bonnet. They posted a pic and from memory it was located top right of the engine bay. I went to look the other day and could not find anything in that area or...

    Vario 814 cab heating problem

Hi all, I could have sworn I saw a thread here some time ago about someone who said their cab heating was constantly on. Someone said there was a switch in the engine compartment that needs to be switched over for summer/winter usage and they put up a pic. I tried to find the thread again...

    MERCEDES VARIO AIR SUSPENSION

Great information, thanks. If you could scan the templates that would be great as it would save a load of time to try to replicate them. No worries if its a hassle, just seeing your setup is enough. Have you road tested them yet? It would be great to hear what difference it makes. Plus, I...

    A new vario project

Interesting. I am thinking of adding rear airbags too. Please can you keep us informed? Thanks in advance,

127 different converted Varios and counting. . .

Well, I think most of them are Varios. https://www.facebook.com/Tribu-camtar-709339102510231/photos/?tab=album&album_id=750169341760540 There are a couple in here I'd love to know a bit more about - like this one for instance. . . Anyway. . . the page is chock full of interesting rigs but...

    VARIO AIR CONDITIONING ?

Ahhh, that makes sense now. As you were. A roof top will do the job.

    Papple's Vario Build

Ha! Just saw this and thought of your project. If you kick up the overhang it will help with clearance and you will have a covered area for the bike and a patio at other times! How cool is that! The facebook group it came up on is also worth having a look at as it has the biggest image...

    VARIO AIR CONDITIONING ?

I used to have one of these on a Hymer motorhome. It was set up for use while hooked up rather than off an inverter. Used it a couple of times but it was noisy and ineffective. It was a 2006 model so they might have improved a tad in 10 years and also might not have been working properly. I...

    Papple's Vario Build

Nice find. I saw that come up as for sale on a facebook group the other week and thought it would be snapped up. Interesting step down at the back - that's a bit unusual is it not? For a slow build you are cracking on with it - at this rate it will be done by Xmas ;)

Mercedes Vario 814DA - An introduction

Good to hear there are two other 4x4s with the grinding/vibrating/chatter noise around the 50mph mark. I thought it was around where the transfer box is as is where the noise comes from if I had to guess, but I have not asked my wife to hang out of the window or let her hang underneath while...

Mercedes Vario 814DA - An introduction

Thanks Ian. . . looks like I have a lighter right foot than you at around 17mpg which equates to 16.6l per 100km. But then. . . I just bimble everywhere and I know it drops considerably soon as I push on.

Mercedes Vario 814DA - An introduction

Curves are good! It's a long story about how she came to be. I'm writing a blog which will have lots of info and pics but I can say that's it's a pretty remarkable story. Our sweet spot for speed is bang on 50 mph. Means it's rare for me to overtake anything and I usually have a clear road...

Mercedes Vario 814DA - An introduction

The cab space with the swivel seats works really well. One really good part is it opens up the front screen as a window to the outside. One day I'll fit a removable steering wheel so the drivers side can do more than just swivel to just the side - I have the boss to do it but its low down on the...

What awning do you have on your Vario or other high MB truck?

I have fitted Fiamma wind out awnings to previous motorhomes and they were fine. I decided to fit a Thule unit to my new rig as I think it is a better, more robust awning. Its certainly more expensive! I also wanted to have a safari room and decided their Panorama unit was the one for me. I...

Mercedes Vario 814DA - An introduction

Thanks guys, it never occurred to me that they could be re calibrated. I know a manufacturer is obliged to ensure they never read less than the actual speed the vehicle is doing by law, so assumed this was set and unchangeable. Anyway. . . here is a shot of the inside.

Mercedes Vario 814DA - An introduction

Hi all, I know there is a splendid gaggle of Vario 814 owners on here and it's about time I introduced myself and Big Betty. So. I have a 1999 Vario 814DA. She was coach built in 2011 to the shape you see here, but never finished as a project. I found and took her over at the end of last...

    WARNING LAMP

I have the same problem and I have LED top roof lights fore and aft as well as marker lights. In total I'd have to fit 20 resistors and there is no room to fit them anyway. I am seriously considering either removing the warning light or putting a patch over it to stop the glare :)

    Vario 814 da exhaust brake

Is the same for me Ian. I have a floor mounted foot switch on my 814DA 1999 and when I hit it I can hear air and engaging but there is no brake retardation I can feel. Having said that, I have not really tested it over 2k revs or a really long downhill run. I haven't gone any deeper into this...
