Late reply but here are some photos of a Yakima rack on my 1990 D21. Sits a little high but is secure. I'll eventually put the shell back on which should make the rear overhang a bit better.

Great stuff. Thanks! Mine's a 1990 4 cyl single cab with the 235s on stock rims. Tires it came with seem fine but are old and the fronts are different than the rears--some BigO ATs. The KO2s seem to come in either size and will likely be my choice. I'm no mudder or extreme off roader so will...

Can you elaborate on the tire change? I've got 235s and have considered 31s but am afraid I'll regret the performance hit.
