    Oman & the UAE

Thanks for the sharing the photos and link to Mike's book. I've thoroughly enjoyed exploring the easy parts of Oman over the past 12 months, having lived in Dubai for 7 years, and now want to get out more. I also really, really want to visit Saudi. I have a lot of friends from the Kingdom, and...

What are you using for a coffee maker and coffee brand when camping/overlanding?

I'm really surprised no one has mentioned the Minipresso hand pump, which works with either regular grounds or Nespresso capsules. I've had mine for a few months now - boil water using the Alpkit Wolf (UK version of the Jetboil), run a cup through to warm it up, then inset Nespresso capsule and...

Goal Zero Yeti 400 Lithium - in-car charging

Thanks guys. These are the kind of answers I wanted. Not too easy to call the GoalZero factory when you live on the other side of the world to them. Think I'll stick with the albeit heavier non-lithium.

Goal Zero Yeti 400 Lithium - in-car charging

Is that with the Lithium Yeti or the older/heavier version? Specifically charging using the 110/220v output rather than the 12v, as that’s non compatible with the Lithium? Thanks,

Goal Zero Yeti 400 Lithium - in-car charging

This is only applicable to the ‘older' non-lithium Yeti. The newer Lithium battery powered Yeti is not compatible with 12v car chargers, but wondered if anyone knew the specs of the 110/220v charging system in the Toyota J150 (Prado/LX460).

Goal Zero Yeti 400 Lithium - in-car charging

I’m aware that the Lithium Yeti’s cannot be charged using the 12v cigarette lighter outputs in the car, but wondered if they can be charged while driving using the 110v car output. I have a 2010 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (J150) which has the two pin 110/220v output that I use to charge camera...

(Julmood) My 2016 Nissan Patrol Y61 (GU), SWB, 4.8L I-6, in the Arabian Wilderness!

I'm 'only' in Dubai and have been planning to visit Salalah during the monsoons for the past 5 years, but never found the time/money. This year, I've finally bought a roof top tent and now I'm used to it, planning on driving down next year and camping. Question though - during the monsoons, is...

    Post your tents

That's one hell of a campfire! I keep on looking at pick-up's to help bring the level of the tent down so I can get in to car parks again, plus store kayak/bike in the bed.

    Post your tents

https://www.instagram.com/p/BXuakG4F3S8/ Not much to say. Pretty much standard J150/Prado, based in UAE. Only mods are KO2's, knock-off ARB aluminium roof rack, plus ARB Simpson III roof top tent. I've build some Drifta/Thrifta style drawers, very badly, but they serve the purpose of keeping...

    Trailer Hitch Hammock Mount

Hey Chris, I got your hammock mount shipped here in Dubai (cost a fortune for shipping, but well worth it). I went camping up Jebel Shams in Oman over the weekend and a lot of interest in the hammock mount. Super easy (although a little heavy, if I'm honest) and perfect for nights under the...

    Hard top vs canvas RTT

I've just bought an ARB Simpson III for not much more than the Chinese models go for. Hoping to head in to Oman this coming weekend, in search of cooler climates, and camp up the tallest mountain in the Arabian Peninsula, Jebel Shams. Thanks for all your inputs.

    Hard top vs canvas RTT

Thanks for the info, and a bit of clarity - hadn't really thought about the amount of fibreglass out in these conditions on a daily basis and how it stands up. I'd hazard a guess that the non-branded Chinese knock-off's may not be the best quality lid, but there's one that's been used for a...

    Hard top vs canvas RTT

Thanks for the insight Tom. I had seen the Alu Cab's and they're certainly built for the dry and dusty climates. I've been hankering after a Troopy (which are available here) with the Alu Cab pop top. I'm more interested how well the canvas tops stand up to the climate, as I'd prefer to keep...

    Hard top vs canvas RTT

I've been looking at RTT's for a while now, and been attracted more by the hard top style which pop straight up - these would be generic Chinese/Korean unbranded/rebranded items. I'm now questioning whether one of these would be the right move or should I consider one of the more traditional...

    Merc T1 210 4x4 Adventure Camper

Thanks guys. Seems that most of the mechanics for the 4wd system were from period G-Wagons, so parts shouldn't be much of an issue, just the front axle is wider than the G item. Need to work out how much space is in the engine bay for conversion. It's currently fitted with the 100hp 2.3 petrol...

    Merc T1 210 4x4 Adventure Camper

Now, this isn't a build thread, but more of a call for assistance and advice before I take the plunge. I've found a pretty solid (incredibly) 1991 210 4x4, originally converted by Iglhaut Allrad and shipped to the United Arab Emirates for use by the municipality. The condition of the mechanics...
