You can use a hammer on the head of the bolt to get the splines to seat inside the hanger. Couple good hits and then re-torque.

Nice work with your Neon! My wife and I just recently purchased a cobalt and we're planning to do a lot of the same mods. Any update on the awning? Our coblat didn't come with one and I'm debating on whether to install an ARB awning, or a Dometic awning that utilizes the existing mounting...

I know that your post is now an old post, but I wanted to see what size tire you were able to fit in there with the 3" block? We just picked up an '07 cobalt yesterday and of course I'm already planning mods. Thank you very much for posting all the detailed info!
