Project Fauxverlander 200 Series Land Cruiser Build Thread

That 200 fit kit looks like it was made for that truck.:sombrero: It was a very clean, quick install. Glad I could help.

    UCE3 - Utah Cruiser Expedition 3

The 200 is mine. It does have an OME lift as well as tires. Not that it matters but also has arb drawers in the back. I'd wheeled my 80 all over the Southwest, and the Western Hemisphere for that matter. 168k miles in 7 years. Put 100k miles on my 100 in 3.5 years (primarily on camping trips...

    UCE3 - Utah Cruiser Expedition 3

I do most/all of the planning for the UCE trips. For me it's first hand knowledge, then maps, then Google earth. Oddly this is the exact opposite of how I do 98% of my other trips where I just think of a region of the southwest where I haven't been, head to that region, then find a dirt road...

sorry. I was agreeing with you in my post. should have used more words. I think anyone who has been involved in wheeling in the 4 Corners states knows that story all too well.

    UCE3 - Utah Cruiser Expedition 3

Funny the guys on UCE have removed at least 3 abandoned vehicles from the back country that I can remember. Could be more. Alpine tundra is very sensitive. Off track in the desert is very destructive. Driving through mud on existing and maintained roads? meh, not so much.

    UCE3 - Utah Cruiser Expedition 3

Let's see. Both are normally drivable in a passenger car. Per my early comments, one of those roads is a railroad maintenance road and is maintained throughout the year for access and hauling livestock. At one point I planned to drive a Prius across that road until the snow persuaded me to do...

    UCE3 - Utah Cruiser Expedition 3

Correct. Not a lot has changed since pre-Monument for the most part. Maybe some more signage and a few bathrooms but otherwise pretty much the same. The biggest difference down there has been finger pointing over who maintains roads. I think Left Hand Collett has been closed more than it's been...

    UCE3 - Utah Cruiser Expedition 3

The super muddy shots from West of Milford is a railroad access/livestock haul road. They actually have a grader parked at the East end of the road year round. I will say the weekend we did UCE the BLM was overwhelmed. UDOT actually brought snowplows down from Northern Utah to plow the paved...

    UCE3 - Utah Cruiser Expedition 3

Two of the sections we tore up are constantly maintained by heavy machinery and will show no evidence whatsoever and the third is buried under 10 feet of snow and come end of spring will be smoothed by spring run off. There is a difference between tearing up small two tracks in the middle of...

2013 Toyota 4Runner, Equipt Edition Build

As always Pablo your rig is extremely well thought out. I was VERY impressed with the performance this past week. I still miss your 100 but the 4Runner is changing that in a hurry.

Hindsight = 20/20...what did you wish you had left behind? What did you need?

I will say I wish I had done this... http://www.alongdrive.com/picture-gallery/exploring-our-material-world/ Of course then I would probably have been mocked for how many shoes I took with me but in hindsight it's something I think all Overlanders should do as an exercise but also as a point...

Hindsight = 20/20...what did you wish you had left behind? What did you need?

I did have my car washed thoroughly after both trip to the Salar de Uyuni. Also had to wash it to put it in a container. The rains kept it fairly clean. i'm just saying i didn't want it immaculate and shiny all the time. My point about getting searched was that I still got stopped all the...

Hindsight = 20/20...what did you wish you had left behind? What did you need?

this ended up being much longer than I thought it would... It's been 4 years since I returned home so my list isn't as accurate as it would have been back then but I think the important thing to remember is perspective and location. My perspective or approach to my trip was to see the natural...

Travelling Light, poking into the sweet spots of the southwest minimalist style.

Personally I prefer the Weiss Hwy over the Pony Express. More scenic, more enjoyable to drive and fewer people. Probably too early to get up into the Deep Creek but some great hiking in a few of the canyons at the base. Blue lake is interesting but can't really explain way. If you stay Pony...

I have plans saturday but I can give you some advice on what to see and do although sometimes figuring it out on your own is more enjoyable.

The ATs look very good on the Subi. The RTT, however, makes me laugh every time I see it.
