    Sun-Lite 865 Rebuild Project

Well.. plans have changed again... lol After fully gutting the camper, we discovered that the supports for the sleeper were rotten in the front corners which basically meant everything from waist height up would be getting replaced... Then I got offered a bus for free. My parents had...

    Sun-Lite 865 Rebuild Project

That was another selling point on this one.. came with electric atwoods on it. Hell, those are worth more then I paid for the whole camper. Lol

    Sun-Lite 865 Rebuild Project

Talked to a buddy of mine who has been a general contractor for the last 40 years and basically has a private lumberyard (has been buying bulk material for years by the trailer load for dirt cheap because it was odds and ends..) Anyways... he owes me a favor or 2.. so he stopped by and...

    Sun-Lite 865 Rebuild Project

Ok... from the looks of what I'm seeing, most arched roof campers don't have a substantial arch.. maybe a few inches. I'd say it would be easy enough to build the arch bows out of 1/2 marine grade (or thinner).. glued and screwed with cross bracing full width and some vertical supports...

    Sun-Lite 865 Rebuild Project

Not a bad idea. I'm not to knowledgeable on forming wood arches however... but I can do some research on that. Would it need to be substantial or could it be slight? I was planning on 2x2 framing with 1.5" foam screwed and glued between layers of 1/4" marine grade... basically building a...

Has anyone converted from aluminum siding (old school) to smooth skins?

^ That's what I'm worried about. If I skin it and fully glue everything.. there won't be any room for expansion/contraction which is how the camper was originally designed. Probably not a good idea I'm assuming...

Has anyone converted from aluminum siding (old school) to smooth skins?

Hey alls... Just got a slide in camper that I have to pull the factory siding for some rot repair. I'm not a huge fan of the aluminum siding look and was curious if anyone had ever converted one of these to smooth fiberglass or aluminum sheet skins? If so.. what was involved? I'm concerned...

    Sun-Lite 865 Rebuild Project

Hey guys... Fairly new to the forums.. been lurking around for a while and finally decided to join. Our original plans were to build a flat-bed slide in from scratch... however after getting a deal (I hope) on craigslist... my plans have changed. Today, I got a '97 Sun-Lite 865...

    '97 Sun-Lite 865... anyone have any details?

Hey guys.. So I'm having a '97 sun-lite 865 dropped off at my place this weekend and the details on it are lacking. I know the general dimensions and such... but was curious of dry/wet weight.. and if it is aluminum framed or all wood. I'm getting this unit delivered for $900...

Wood frame campers...?? How do they hold up?

Well... change of plans. Lol I was looking around on craigslist and saw a sliide in advertised needing the roof replaced... no pictures.. for 1k. I called the guy (hes 2 hours away).. Its a '97 sun-lite 865 with ac, furnace, stove, sink, fridge, shower, and toilet... room for a queen...

Wood frame campers...?? How do they hold up?

I'm in southern Indiana just outside of Evansville. We have several decent lumber yards in the area but I'm always open to suggestion. Could for sure. The options seem pretty open.. just need to find something that will fit the budget.

Wood frame campers...?? How do they hold up?

That's what I was thinking... What I could get my hands on would be basic big box store stuff.. so nothing special as mentioned by Victorian. Plywood would more then likely be the best option in my case then.. but I'm open minded until I start buying.

Wood frame campers...?? How do they hold up?

Let me ask this... instead of skinning with 1/4" plywood... could one use FRP panels instead (lighter weight)? Didn't know if strength would be an issue. I'll more then likely go with plywood.. but wasn't sure if FRP would be an option

Wood frame campers...?? How do they hold up?

Absolutely! It just makes me feel a bit better about wood and foam construction knowing that pieces of foam hold together going down the road. Lol

Wood frame campers...?? How do they hold up?

Spent a few hours on tnttt.... guys actually build completely out of foam?? I guess if that holds together running down the highway... just about any of the ideas I'd been considering should work just fine. Lol

Wood frame campers...?? How do they hold up?

Looks like I've got more research to do... In your opinion.. as far as material cost goes, what is more cost effective? All steal or building foam core panels? I can work with wood... I can work with steel... Dont have the tools to work with aluminum and don't really want the hassle of...

Wood frame campers...?? How do they hold up?

I didn't realize you were on here! I love that build and that is were I got my inspiration from. My goals are very similar and it'll be going on my '90 crewcab f350 srw flatbed. Mine will be similar in size but I want it to be a hard side popup. I want the top ~1.5' to collapse down onto the...
