As a 4x4 7.3 owner, I would go V10 next time. The 7.3 is LOUD, needy, stinky and LOUD. I’m a big car guy and do all my own maintenance, but working on the 7.3 is getting old. Part of the problem is owning a 24 year old example. None of the 7.3 vans are new. I’ve fixed 3 coolant leaks and 2 oil...
Chris just posted an updated “how to” video for the DIY kits on YouTube. I’d watch that before making the decision.
Thing you might not be comfortable with:
—-shortening your gas tank. My ambulance had the tank in the rear so I didn’t have to touch it.
—-converting the trans from 2wd to 4wd...
Found a used transmission and transfer case combo from a 1997 F250 diesel. It's a farm truck from a small town that got wrecked. They claim it's got 80,000 miles on it. Since I'm pretty far away, I'm having a friend pick it up for me.
A few days ago I picked up this 1996 E350 ambulance for only $4k. The transmission is on its way out, but I wasn't too concerned about that given that I'm planning a 4wd conversion anyway. A little extra motivation to get it done quicker!
What I got:
1996 E350 Mini Mod with 155k miles
7.3...
Following along... My new (to me) ambulance is coming home today and has those same switch panels and controllers. I’ve been pondering what to do with it all.
Looks like a nice van! Congrats on the purchase.
tires usually won’t cause a rear vibration, even if they are out of balance. Unless they are already bad. Have you checked the rear driveshaft and u joints? That would be my guess.
I have the exact same truck and have been using it for a few years now. I think the first thing to decide is what you ultimately want the truck to be. That'll really dictate SAS vs IFS. I didn't feel the need to change the front end because I don't do any real rock crawling. And I like the...
I picked a shell over a RTT for a few reasons. Both have their pros and cons, but this is my personal preference.
1. I can stealth camp with the shell but not the RTT.
2. Much easier with dogs. They can jump in the back of the truck bed but not a RTT.
3. Ease of setting up/tearing down camp...
I know this thread is a few months old, but I’ll add my response anyway. If someone stumbles across in the future it might help them.
I towed my race car all over the country behind my truck and camper. And the truck is only a 1500HD, but with airbags added in the back. It’s not a diesel so I...
If you search on YouTube for “Chevy vs ford frame flex” it shows how much more ford trucks flex over Chevy trucks. I️ can’t believe Chevy would make their van frames that much weaker than the trucks. Or did they?
