Bike rack on a tire swingarm

I'm going to have a receiver tube welded to the arm itself, below the tire. This will lower the rack (but still keep it higher than typical) and get it tucked in closer to the wheel. Thanks for the feedback.

Bike rack on a tire swingarm

Is this crazy? Too much lever/weight? Too high? Haven't pulled the trigger on the rack yet, but here is what you see: Bump It Off Road bumper and tire carrier with an HD spindle. 2" receiver on the tire carrier. 16 alumnim wheel. 295/75r16 tire. Kuat Sherpa 2.0 rack (32 lbs). Assume 2x...

saris Freedom spare tire mount rack off road capability

Can anyone conclusively tell me if the mounting plate for this rack will fit the wider-spaced 100-series Land Cruiser bolt pattern? The manufacturer's website claims it does, and they'd be the first and only one of these style mounts I've found that fits. I want to be sure before I order one...

Five almost new Toyo AT2s 275/70R18

Check the second photo for what is effectively a brand new tire. You can see the molded bevel on the edge of the tread blocks--this tire was only recently rotated in from the spare carrier. Compare the tread depth to the other tire photos, and you can see that the others have pretty much ALL of...

Five almost new Toyo AT2s 275/70R18

These are the perfect size for a 100-series Cruiser/LX470 running the factory 18" wheels, and will fit completely without modification. They're also very civilized (quiet, smooth) on the highway, have great snow/ice traction for an AT tire, and work great off road.

Five almost new Toyo AT2s 275/70R18

***** SOLD ***** I'm switching to 16" wheels and have a set of five Toyo AT2s 275/70R18 (~33 inches) that have about 10,000 miles on them. The lack of wear on these is remarkable, and they're in almost new condition. There are great tires, and I will be replacing them with the exact same tire...

    Aussie Locker for C200K differential

After an engineering review, Aussie Locker has stated that they will build an locker for the C200K differential (some XTerras, Frontiers, others?). There are currently NO locker (or LSD) options for this diff. For their initial production run of 200 however, they will require 50 prepaid...

    San Rafael quickie

Very mysterious. Yeah, we need to rendezvous some time. I had intended to drive Fix-It Pass, but we took a right turn at the bottom of the Racetrack to chase the setting sun. The next day we just continued on down the trail. Next time.

    San Rafael quickie

<PART 2> The next morning we dismantled our fire, brewed some coffee, and headed up the Devil's Racetrack for some entertaining 4x4. Neither of my passengers had been on anything like it before (3.5 rated?), and both were impressed. Pinched the end of my tailpipe shut coming off one of the...

    San Rafael quickie

Quick overnight solo run down to the Swell on T-day weekend. Beautiful weather, ample solitude, and some fun wheeling. Me, my brother-in-law, and a co-worker left SLC at 10:30 am. We made our way from UT10 to the Wedge, forded the San Rafael, then made our way up Coal Wash to the Devil's...

Dinner with the in-laws. Elk Ridge to Canyonlands 2008

Haha. Sorry for the confusion. Speaking of in-laws, mine used to live in Durham, NH. Visited once. Very beautiful state. Nice rig. My middle name starts with "S."

Dinner with the in-laws. Elk Ridge to Canyonlands 2008

Hey, thanks. Kurt, the photo with the 4Runner crossing a mudhole in the grass is at the mouth of Arch Canyon. I may be emailing you soon with a couple quick Swell questions myself... GPS coordinates. I've got some. Gimmie some time to round them up. None of these places are difficult...

Dinner with the in-laws. Elk Ridge to Canyonlands 2008

PART 3: The next day was all sunshine and blue sky. After several happy pots of coffee the gang loaded up and headed into the Needles to hike the Joint Trail. Along the way we enjoyed the twists, turns, and scenery of Devil's Lane and the Grabens. As far as short hikes with kids go...

Dinner with the in-laws. Elk Ridge to Canyonlands 2008

PART 2: The plan was to make a quick traverse north, across the flanks of the Abajos, and descend into Beef Basin and the Needles beyond--where we would camp and play for a couple more days. My wife and I had scouted the route with the kids a few weeks earlier, and I had no concerns about...

Dinner with the in-laws. Elk Ridge to Canyonlands 2008

-Two Toyotas, two rental Rubicons, nine adults, and six children aged 3 to 8. -Add ample southeastern Utah solitude, some canyon country slickrock, and dash of rain-soaked clay. -Stir well for five days and ~100 miles. -Enjoy. This was the main dish I planned months in advance, and...
