redneck engineering kludge,, yes, I resemble that remark.. LOL thanks for the feedback.

AC charging a tow vehicle while driving

they sell models that do up to 8 amps , but offer the same desufator features of a trickle charger. currently the 1.5amp version seems to work for me.

AC charging a tow vehicle while driving

My current setup is different from what I'm planning on setting up. yes the DC to AC back to DC has a cost. The term trickle charger might not be accurate in this case. It has a trickle feature after charging at a full rate. I will check out what is available in the junk yard. thanks

AC charging a tow vehicle while driving

I believe it was voltage. Time shouldn't have been a problem Driving from St. Louis, to Big Bend National park in south Texas, to New Mexico, and to the east coast. and back. thanks.

AC charging a tow vehicle while driving

Getting back to my original question. If AC tow charging is safe if its done properly, and from what I have read, it is. thanks.

AC charging a tow vehicle while driving

You were correct, I mispoke. I said Isolation transformer when I meant battery isolator. This is what I use. https://stingerelectronics.com/catalog/power/200-amp-relay-and-isolator Amazon price is about $49. I have 2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Again, the DC charging during my 3,000+ trip...

AC charging a tow vehicle while driving

To clarify this is the battery isolator I use. https://stingerelectronics.com/catalog/power/200-amp-relay-and-isolator

oops. my mistake. thanks for catch that. I meant battery isolator.

AC charging a tow vehicle while driving

I said "battery isolator", not "isolation transformer". You should probably watch the video or not. thanks for responding. UPDATE: you are correct. I mispoke. thanks.

AC charging a tow vehicle while driving

Yes, but I don't use/don't have a humidifier or warm the tube. Just the air pump. I' have a voltage gauge and check how much voltage the battery is at. This charger desulfates as well. I had seen Andrew White say in another video that instead of hooking up a dual battery without the...

thanks, this looks like a good source for many things I will need.

AC charging a tow vehicle while driving

I mainly use it while camping with a CPAP. Which draws about 1ah. Once the trailer is configured I will end up drawing more amps but will also add batteries and perhaps an 8AMP charger from the same company (provided the inverter can handle it). Its the AC charging a tow vehicle will...

thank you. this is exactly what I was thinking about doing.

AC charging a tow vehicle while driving

the charger I'm using pushes out about 14.4 volts initially then backs off once the battery becomes charged.

AC charging a tow vehicle while driving

I apologize for using the slang "Juice" What you described is exactly what I have experienced. Little to no charging at about 13 Volts from the dual battery isolator This is with only about 5 feet of 1/0 AWG. I have no intention of trying to run 25 feet of this to a trailer using DC. My...

AC charging a tow vehicle while driving

So your are saying that Andrew White (in the video ) is wrong and there is another reason that my DC charging using a dual setup / battery isolated failed to maintain a proper charge during my 3,000+ mile trip this summer? Each day the battery voltage dropped, 13.2, to 12.9, to 12.1 towards...

AC charging a tow vehicle while driving

Thanks for the response. I will check it out. My only real concern is a low voltage DC run of 30 feet won't be very efficient. My current setup is only a few feet, but converting it to a high voltage AC run means little loss. I have a 100ah house battery and it tops off after only an hour...
