    Recovery Ring Double Rigging

One scenario where this simple 4:1 MA system would think would be is when very close to the anchor point and you may still have a few wraps on your winch which reduces it's pulling force. It may also not be practical to spool out all of the winch line to get to the final wrap for the max pulling...

    Recovery Ring Double Rigging

I realize there has been a lot stress testing on the synthetic ropes and soft shackles but I have not seen destructive test results on the actual rings . With a bow shackle, the bow will begin to deform under excessive loads before failing. Theoretically in a 4:1 systems with a 10K winch you...

Cook Partner Stove Owners Chime In!

Are the new stoves made of aluminum or stainless? I'm pretty sure they used to be stainless and switched to aluminum but can't seem to find this on their website?

    American Safari JXL ....non responsive

I can appreciate wanting to have a shorter wheelbase, better brake over angle, smaller turning circle, and access between camper and "cockpit" which you get with wrangler + JXL. I do think the Alu-cab conversion setup on the gladiator and tacomas are awesome setups but are just a little longer...

Need help: Which trailer works best for us?

Certainly the more hot air warming all the surfaces inside the RV and with moist air venting outside is going to reduce condensation considerably. At least in the basecamp, there's ducted heating that moves air and there's a shower (to hang damp gear if you have to) with a vent that can help...

Need help: Which trailer works best for us?

I was primarily responding to the earlier comments that "Airstreams are unusable in the winter" as that's just wrong. I don't think they are the best overlanding option but would work well for some families. Used ones that can be under 50K and the new basecamps 16x which were recently under...

Need help: Which trailer works best for us?

I've actually owned a Basecamp 16x and two other airstreams as well as a Fiberglass truck camper so you have to be more specific as to what it being compared. If you're talking a composite camper with closed celled foam, then i would agree it has superior insulating properties. Airstreams are...

Need help: Which trailer works best for us?

I agree with the sentiment that production trailers are good for off pavement but probably not difficult off road unless you've spent some time fortifying them. I do disagree that the Airstream Basecamp is not suitable for winter camping. It has a naturally sloped roof that can reduce snow...

Switching from Ford E-Series to FC/cabover (like Sportsmobile to Earthcruiser 4x4)?

Pickup truck platforms, especially the crew cab long bed have a very long wheelbase, which has the benefits of smoother highway travel and a larger fuel tank. They suffer in tight turning situations (parking lots, small towns, offroad mountain switchbacks. And their breakover angles are...

DC DC Converter for OUTPUT from LIFEPO battery

Maybe just go with the standard 12V cigarette style outlet? There are plenty of devices/adapters that can be found on amazon that use this connection for the various USB types. The cig style has remained constant for years so it's a good choice, imo.

DC DC Converter for OUTPUT from LIFEPO battery

If the Renogy doesn't have this functionality, you may want to get the victron wireless shunt that will connect via Blue tooth to your phone which will allow you to monitor voltage, current in, current out and the state of charge. This a cheaper alternative to the victron bmv 712 which has been...

DC DC Converter for OUTPUT from LIFEPO battery

Wiring the fridge to the battery will entail a switch and a fuse, no other regulation is needed. If you have several other devices perhaps a DC fuse panel would make for a cleaner install. The lithium battery will provide a very steady (i.e flat) voltage.

Exterior Window Covers for Acrylic Windows

Maybe some sort of quick release max trax or sand ladder with some sort of spacer system? Even better if they were hinged in a way they could work as a table while also allowing you to open the window:) You probably don't want to keep them there all of the time but they could provide good...

    Pass-through really necessary?

To me, a pass through is what makes an camper and vehicle integrated in addition to the more permanent nature of the mounting system. Not all pass throughs are created equal either. Some allow for effortless connection to the living area like in a converted van and others are just barely large...

Second Alternator Charging Lithium Battery Bank

I'd be inclined to go the B2B route and not leave it to the BMS. B2Bs seem really useful for the Smart Alternators, particularly.

Second Alternator Charging Lithium Battery Bank

I just looked up the LifeBlue website and they claim they are one of the only LiFePo batteries that don't need a DC-DC charger and don't require solar and converters set to a "Lithium" setting as they are a "true" drop in replacement...

    Best heater for extreme altitude

Yeah, it seems like the Diesel heaters are worth considering if 1) you have a diesel vehicle or 2) you don't mind a stand alone fuel system. I'm not comfortable tying into a gasoline tank as they always tend to be small so you need every drop of range and it's easy to find yourself with low...
